Bram Stoker--Dracula (Audiobook)

I recently decided to start listening to audiobooks instead of music on my daily bike rides (to school, coffee shops, etc) and I stumbled upon this gem. I hadn't read Dracula before, so I figured what a way to start off my new plan. This audiobook is really haunting. The guy's voice is spectacular, and for some reason I feel that listening to this book in particular (since it's set up in letters and diary entries) is worth it.

Anyway I listened to it mainly at night when riding my bike around, or while in bed before dozing off, and I must tell you I had some pretty crazy dreams (I'm a fan of vivid dreams, nightmare or not). I have no idea who's doing the actual reading, but here's the file if you'd like to try it out.

I listen to the dark tower on audiobook at the moment. Book 2 had a great reader who could change voices a lot and you could know who was talking no matter what. Then book 3 rolls around and stephen king is doing the voice, wtf mate? god his voice is so nerdy. Sorry to go offtopic of dracula but it fits into audiobook discussion!

Nah, it's not a derail at all. I was hoping this would turn into more of a suggestion thread, although I probably did a poor job with the topic for such an evolution.

Most of Lovecraft's copyrights are way past expired, but certain people are holding on to them with a death grip anyway... the copyrights haven't been renewed and they should have expired 50 years after his death. Some of them got "sold" but not by Lovecraft, and technically his Aunt should've inherented all of them and she never did anything with them so...

Big legal morass. Wikipedia has more details if you look it up.

Am I the only one who absolutely cannot stand books on tape? I've tried listening to them many times and I hardly last 5 minutes before shutting it off and just getting the actual book.

I just downloaded Dracula and don't understand how anyone would want to listen to it rather than reading it. I guess it's nice if you're able to listen to it at work or while you run/bike/work out, but I still would rather wait till I'm done so I can sit down and read.

I've listened to about half a dozen books in the past month, and they have all been read by the authors. I enjoy hearing the intonations of the authors, because it feels like I'm getting something I wouldn't in print. Listening to Sarah Vowell in Assassination Vacation was especially awesome.

I'm sure that eventually I'll come upon a book read by some dude who doesn't really understand the context and it's going to be shit.

Well it's much like you said McCheese, however different in the aspect of time. I've got more books piled up on my 'stack' that any person has a right to. Unfortunately I'll never have enough time to get through all of the ever-growing stack, and I'm an extremely avid reader.

So, that leaves us the odd times when you can do something, but that something does not entail reading (eg while driving, biking, excercizing).

While I agree that I would rather read the books instead of listen to them, I do appreciate the niche audiobooks can fill. Provided I can find some of the 'stack' books somewhere to download, their audio version will undoubtedly allow me to finally get to the titles that have been constantly set aside in favor of something else.

No doubt reading it is better. You can read quicker and go back to anything you missed much easier as well. But like you said, you can't multi task while reading, audiobooks are great when I'm playing playstation or working out
