Now that it's so easy to download new series from publishers I'd never heard of before, I check out a lot more stuff and I follow writers a lot more than I do companies. If Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, the Luna brothers, Howard Chaykin, etc. write something, I'll pick it up regardless of the publisher. Since I'm no longer interested in keeping around boxes upon boxes of individual issues (have enough of those just from the 80s as it is), it's nice to be able to read what I like now and then go buy the trades at the end of each arc in a series... The Boys is about the only thing I'm buying on an issue-by-issue basis right now. PS--Anyone who reads comics on their computer should check out ComicRack as a reader. It reminds me a lot of foobar2000 in terms of organizational features, and I can't imagine going back to CDisplay after using CR for a while now. The library feature is nice when you have ~25GB of comics to sift through. ComicRack Development Last edited by Vorph : 01-19-2007 at 10:49 AM.

| Heh, that's a lot of comics. You don't happen to have scanned versions of the DC "new format" books from the late 80's do you? I dug out my Question series a couple months ago to re-read and somehow I'm missing issues. |

| Sorry, but I have never been a Question fan, and own zero of his issues. Isn't that fairly easy to get on torrent though?

Haven't seen much in the way of torrents for stuff that old. I've been looking for the The Question, The Spectre, Green Arrow, and Haywire (all 'new format' stuff) for a while now with no luck. Wish I knew why just a few issues of each are missing from my boxes.

+12 Internets | Best bet is to get a Demonoid invite code and search for the comics you want. Tons of shit there. Won't necessarily find exactly what you're looking for, but generally easier to find stuff. Have seen golden/silver age stuff uploaded. Oh and I don't get the Ultimate hate, unless it's just stodgy old "OMG they changed something" bullshit. I could see if they replaced the originals, but they haven't in any way.

| Demonoid's ok, and there actually is a torrent of The Question there, but each issue is only about 3MB. DC's New Format used high quality paper and normal size should be around 9-12MB an issue just like today's comics. I should probably just donate to Z-Cult and get full access to their servers. Re: Ultimates -- to be honest I really only looked at the X-Men stuff, and I hated the retooling of all the characters (and no, it's not just "omgz colossus is teh fag") and the world in general. I thought it was all crap compared to the original series, New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, X-Factor, Xcalibur, X... you get the point. There's more than enough good X-Men stuff that I don't need to waste time on Ultimate. As far as the rest of the Ultimates go, I just don't like Marvel much to begin with and those are all the books I especially can't stand. Even Warren Ellis' writing couldn't get me to read a F4 book. |

Ultimate X-Men is trash. Not even in the same league as Spider-Man or Ultimates(FF is....ok. Not a FF fan but I read Ultimate FF). But being a Marvel hater and calling Ultimates "utter shit" when all you've tried is the worst of the series is pretty weak. If you don't like any of the characters in the first place, you won't like them in Ultimate variety. That doesn't make them "utter shit". Especially if you haven't even tried them. Yes, I'm a nerd.

| I suppose "utter shit" was a bit of hyperbole but the multiple universes thing is one of my biggest comic book pet peeves. I hated it back in the pre-Crisis (on Infinite Earths) days of DC, and I think it's just as retarded today. About the only time I can understand the need for having a series involving existing characters happen outside canon (especially while the original series is still ongoing) is with something like Marvel MAX, and that's mainly because the idea of the Punisher operating in a world filled with actual superheros is completely ridiculous and he should've been in his own little world from day one. At least we agree that Ultimate X-Men sucks. ^^ Last edited by Vorph : 01-20-2007 at 02:33 PM. |

+12 Internets | It's no different than the various X-Men titles. It is in no way related to the normal continuity. At all. It's not an alternate universe or anything, it's a completely seperate continuity. Doesn't make it good or bad, just totally unlike the Infinite earths bullshit. They wanted to give Bendis a clean slate to start with on Spider-Man, not make him shoehorn what he wants to do into 600 issues of canon. So he got to re-launch the series with USM. It worked=P

+12 Internets | Right because the ultimate versions are colliding with the normal ones constantly. And there's 15 different Iron Mans running around. Aside from the fact both contain already established heroes, there's not much in common. If you're too stupid or ugly or smell too much like dead fish to realize that, oh well.

| I don't even know what you are saying. If you don't like the Crisis or Infinite Crisis I understand. I didn't either. M-Day was a far better event. But using those to rag on the universe when Marvel also does whacky shit with alternate universes and cross-overs is strange.
