| Probably because Tolkien was more a classicist than a writer. LOTR was about world building and use of mythology and frankly the literature aspects of it are sorely lacking. Personally I kind of put it alone in its own little bubble away from the rest of the genre it started and ignore it as "history". And again, Martin is a big time fantasy traditionalist Tolkien lover so he'd break kneecaps over Tolkien bashing.

+4 Internets | Yeah I think LoTR belongs in it's own catagory, it's not really comparable. I do think Martin is among the very best of modern fantasy though. Only authors I'd put on par with him are Pratchett amd Robin Hobb, and they're both very different subgenres or styles of writing. |

| Hehe, I think we all in here pretty much agreed on that statement long ago. And thanks A2T.

| Wow, so I guess I shouldn't ever take Amazon's word on anything. I saw on their site that A Dance with Dragons was being released at Sept. 30th, so I took that as word. Turns out, it's been pushed back to April of 2009. Why the fuck Amazon made up that date is beyond me. Assholes. |

| Well the turn around for novels once the manuscript is in at the very quickest is 3 months, so it would have to be finished like this week to come out this September.
