I think Tyrion is probably the top of everyone's list. The man struck gold with that character. Jaime is an awesome dose of moral ambiguity as well. The great thing about Jaime is that he goes from asshole bad guy to a likeable, relateable 'almost hero' with a simple change in perspective as much as a change in character. I'd say the same about Cersei but she's an annoying cunt who fucks up everything she touches. Like Catelyn but less passive-aggressive and more of an outright controlling bitch.

Damnit now I want to read the series again. But I know if I do I'll just get cut at the end of book 4 because I have to wait for 5, then read the series again still when it releases.

Demonoid.com - George R. R. Martin AudioBook Collection

Just download it and listen to it in your car on your way to work / school / strip club.

PS. If you download this, when you have finished, delete the "@" symbol in the parent directory or the files will not play. Also, if you need a demoid invite, PM me.

It's well worth it. Roy Dotrice does a pretty fantastic job narrating the first three books. The jackass they got for the fourth, however, makes it near impossible to complete a listening. I think there were scheduling conflicts with Roy when recording AFFC, but there are rumors that they may do a secondary recording with his narration. I also believe he's slated to do the fifth book, too. The only thing with Roy was at first I found his various voices for the characters to be nothing like I had imagined them, but after getting through about the first third of AGOT, I started digging it, and from there I was hooked. Regardless, they're worth checking out, especially for those workday drives...

This may sound silly, but does anyone know where to find the CD versions of those? I have a long ass drive coming up and my car's stereo doesn't have an aux in for my ipod =/ Checked B&N, borders, amazon and only found used cassette versions, nothing new or in CD.

Only place I've been able to find them legitimately is via Audible.com. The problem is you have to convert their retarded ass format to a massive MP3 file, and then afterwards split the MP3. I've been a member of Audible for a while now, and I don't mind paying for the credits which allow me to snag audio books much cheaper then anything store-bought. I think I spent twenty bucks on software to do the conversions, and I constantly download books, convert, and burn. I'll try to post the programs I use tomorrow, if you're interested. It's honestly not hard to set up the whole deal, and if you spend a lot of time on the road, a membership pays off, as does the ability to burn them to an MP3 CD.

That would be great. Audible has a fairly good library, but their DRM just pisses me off to no end. Last book i downloaded from them went onto a cheap-o mp3 player i had at the time and hasn't been playable on anything else. Never could figure out how to convert it to mp3. I usually don't take many road trips, but i do spend alot of time in my car and prefer to listen to books than the crap radio stations try to pass off as rock these days.

Don't forget to check your local library system. You may be able to just check them out and burn them for free.

Here are the programs for converting and splitting Audible.com files:

Converter - dBpoweramp: CD Ripper & Audio Converter. Secure ripping to mp3, FLAC, m4a, Apple Lossless & WMA

Splitter - MP3 Cutter, MP3 Splitter - trim MP3,split MP3,cut MP3 files to smaller pieces

Directshow Codec - dBpoweramp Codec Central DirectShow

Helpful Artical - Convert Audible Files to mp3 | filbar.org

I haven't screwed around with setting up the software on a new machine in a long time, but I remember it being pretty straight forward. The important thing is you need the Directshow Codec. If anyone has any questions or issues, just toss me a PM, and I'll be happy to help where I can...

Edit - Added Directshow codec link

I started book 4 on audio today, and was immediately horrified to find that Roy Dotrice doesn't do it. I'm only about 5 minutes in and contemplating just ditching the CD and reading the book, but the fact that I'm also just starting Toll The Hounds doesn't help.

Does this new guy (I forget his name) get any better? This seems intolerable so far.

No. No, he does not...

I literally wanted to punch my car stereo throughout the entire book. He's pretty shitty, but I was ready to ride through it thinking I'd refresh my memory in preparation for ADWD (this was I think two or three summers ago). What do I get for my pain, having to wait until lord knows when while Captain Procrastination rants about football and writes some more asstastic Wild Cards bullshit...

Oh well, good thing I did start Malazan a couple of months ago, hehe...

lol that fat fuck is never going to finish this series. At this rate it will another 10 years minimum before he finishes, good luck with that.

This is the literary equivelant of the sweet innocent girlfriend you thought was 'the one' then you find out she's been sucking 10 dicks a week behind your back, causing you to never trust women again. I've lost my faith in fantasy authors and am never going to touch an incomplete series.
