| I think by now should all pretty much have gotten used to never to expect any kind of release date before we actually sit with the book in our very own hands.

| When I first read these books, I could hardly put them down and I waited impatiantly for the next book to come out. Now, the wait has been so long between books, I find myself with little to no interest in them anymore. By the time it comes out I doubt I will even pick it up before it hits paperback. |

Seriously, fuck GRRM. Every time I read his stupid "Not A Blog" I want to find out where he lives and go punch him. The guy is basically having fun doing all his other side crap and giving the middle finger to his core fans for this series. If I were the publisher, I'd be riding his ass, too.

+161 Internets | Sooooo....which author do we choose to write the final book when GRRM dies before finishing the series?

| Laurell K Hamilton. Because then every single character will have to end up fucking each other and miscellaneous monsters to get anything done. ... What? -- Robert Jordan. He won't make the same mistake this go round. .... What? -- David Eddings. His prose are the best, and his story telling is all full of... stuff. ... What? | Yeah Joe could do it. Erikson doing it would be amusing. Bernard Cornwell and Richard Morgan are also possible more realistic choices. Basically anyone who has a fairly gritty way of storytelling could probably do it. God knows Martin won't. |

| Found a new sample chapter... spoiler below... Found a new sample chapter on the internet, PoV character is 'Reek'. Or actually Theon being forced to answer to the name Reek. Things have not been going well for him, that's for sure. |

| Never showed him dying actually. Just that his men got overran. I really hope his POV ends up being important, if not its just more of the side character problem. Jeez, the people that praise Martin and bitch about Jordan are going to have mental breakdowns if aDoD turns out like aFfC.

Morgan -- maybe, just maybe, Abercrombie could manage -- would be a decent candidate for completing the series. If Erikson touched the series, I wouldn't read a word of it.

| If he's sick of writing the series than he should stop promoting it, making card games, HBO series, many other products left and right. If he was just writing books and that's all, than yeah I think most of the jaded fans would take it. I've read other authors who have taken a long time between books. You get annoyed, but its part of the process. But that's not it, he's not writing and the reason it seems he isn't is because on his blog all he does is go to cons, take vacations and sell another useless paraphenelia that doesn't add anything to the main story. I loved the first 3 books, thought the 4th was moderate but right now its clear that he's lost his muse and would rather milk the cash cow. Valyrian Steel - Swords from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying: Ours is the Fury! Amazon.com: Game of Thrones: The Boardgame (Board Game) [BOX SET]: Toys & Games A Game of Thrones All Sorts of Weird Stuff: Derivations - Wargame Entering Westeros, from the Song of Ice and Fire Miniature Lines - George R.R. Martin Masterworks Need I go on? It's fucking ridiculous. They can't shovel this shit out of the door fast enough. Yay for capitalism though. Honestly I'd rather have a completed series than all this useless crap. And people had the gall to call Jordan a sell out. At least he wrote books, even though not of superb quality near the end. Btw, I agree Erikson wouldn't be good for finishing Asoiaf. Their styles are too different. It was meant tongue in cheek. Last edited by Kasi : 08-06-2008 at 09:19 PM. |

| I'm going to go straight to -50 internets for saying this, but this series is kinda a piece of shit. Granted, I only got about half way through the third book but someone tell me... does this story ever actually get to a fucking point? And if so, is there actually any good writing before that point? So there's 3 parts of the plot. War over the seven kingdoms, zombies in the north and Dany and her dragons. Fine. But it needs to come to a head. Now. You all think that Wheel of Time suffered from "i'm going fucking nowhere" syndrome? It doesn't have anything on this. And at least those books have likable characters! I can't stand a single character that's been introduced, to date. Could they have gone places? Yes. Say Arya goes off and learns magic with her foreign shape-shifting friend. Hello character development. Instead, she gets captured, runs, gets captured, runs, gets captured and so on and so forth forever without actually developing any more in either story or character. She's still a whiny bitch as opposed to a female bad-ass trained in foreign combat and out for vengeance. Jon Snow? Whiny bitch. Robb? Bitch. Dany? Ned? The Baratheons, the Starks, the Greyjoy's? All whiny fucking bitches. The only badasses that have been introduced are the Lanisters and the only people who could like them are the ones who can relate with dysfunctional family life. The writing doesn't follow any type of acceptable technique. There's no suspense, no mystery, no emotion... It's like a documentary. A particularly slow one. George R.R. Martin isn't writing a story so much as several biographies. I hate to rain on your guy's parade here; I really do... I even read as far as I did because you all thought so highly of it, but the writing (at least up to the middle of book 3) is on par with Tad Williams. Mildly interesting but not worth the time spent. To the author, I have a solution to make you not suck as much. Between each book, skip about 2 years of plot timeline (or 10 or however many you need). At your current development rate your series will be finished by about the time Robert Jordan gets resurrected and finishes his. Additionally, shock value entertainment sucks. It won't save your books; stop trying to make it. Oh, and make a character that people like. So that, you know... people don't feel like they're rubbing sandpaper over their eyes while reading your books. I'm so disappointed. I came into this series with so much hope. I look forward to your doubtless brilliantly conceived -internet comments. I'm still right.
