Trust me when I say this though, his other characters are as interesting, if not moreso than Rincewind and the like (i never really liked that series). Anything with Vimes in it is gold. Try Guards Guards, Small Gods, Nightwatch, Thunk! Non-Vimes winners are: Going Postal, Monstrous Regiment, Thief of Time, Mort | |

| can't forget the ultimate running character... DEATH Some of Pratchett's best social commentary and moralizing are in the DEATH novels. Hogfather, Mort, Soul Music, Pyramids (one of the older ones) are all really good. If you were only going to read one Pratchett novel ever though, I'd pick Small Gods. The message is too good for it not to be more widely read. |

| I'm a huge Discworld fan, just wanted to make sure everybody knew about the pre-teen books - Maurice & His Amazing Rodents (or something to that effect), The Wee Free Men, and A Hat Full of Sky are quite good and well worth reading despite the target audience. They're some of his best Discworld work. As for my favorites, Witches Abroad is hilarious, Small Gods is probably the most emotionally powerful, and Jingo is a personal favorite though anything with Vimes and Vetinari is money. But there are very few bad ones, and a great many good ones, and they're so readable it's disgusting. Pratchett's genius has been widely recognized, but despite the acclaim his talent is probably still underappreciated.

| Good Satire books? First let me say i am sorry I did a super mega necro on this thread but I didn't want to start an entirely new thread for a kinda minor topic but related to this book series. What are a few good satire / funny books? I really loved the discworld series and it was an absolute riot at times. So far I had read few other books / series that have capture my attention as throughly and been so good throughout. I am really interested in more books which are funny or humorous with good satire in them espically series books. Anyone know any?

| Used to be a big fan. I gave up after Monstrous Regiment. I found that the characters get repetitive, and after 25+ books I don't want to read about a new character 75% like a previous one.. I want Vimes or Rincewind. The first one I didn't read was about some guy called Moist Von something, and I just knew that he was going to be the same as the guy from Theif of Time or The Truth. Yeah I don't care about your promising Post Office buisness, past storylines have included the end of the world several times thanks. After all those nice little stories about Anhk-Morpork and how it has gone from Medieval fantasy hell hole to Victorian London in less than ~20 years, I want the crazy shit back. You know... upside down mountains and fences at the end of the world? I used to have a Discworld Map, and 85% of it is featured in the Rincewind Books only. Where did Rincewind go? Seems like the books have gone away from the crazy characters and settled down in the new versions of Anhk-Morpork and Uberwald. The series started as a modern fantasy kinda thing and now it seems very victorian to me, with sherlock homles and frankenstein type stories. I want fantasy back dammit!

+7 Internets | yeah, I should have never mentioned him. He's the most basic, rehashed, dragged out, generic fantasy I've ever read. His stuff isn't even remotely amusing, ever.
