Barnes and Noble does have a fantastic kids section. My wife teaches 9-10 English as a Second Language (ESL) to all the illegals (well they're not all...but most :P) here in Houston. She spends a LOT of time in the kids section because they have a 6th, 7th or even lower reading level sometimes. Newbury award winners work well for her. One she just picked out that I thought was excellent is "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate DiCamillo. It's a cute adventure book about and adventurous mouse that falls in love with the castles princess and goes on a quest to save her from an evil rat. :P
Not sure what your daughters reading level is up to but I'm sure it'd be a fun book to read together too.

Right now we are reading the Disney fairy series which she is pretty capable of reading on her own (though she will have me read from them as well).

Which I have to admit are pretty interesting, maybe not great works of literature but entertaining for a seven year old girl just the same.

I get 95% of my books at church sales, yard sales, etc. My shelves are so loaded right now it's embarassing.

DVDs are finally starting to pop up at sales finally which makes me so happy. The Godfather Trilogy boxed set for two dollars? Done and done.

Of course all my clothes and furniture is second hand too. Growing up with antique dealer parents sorta affected my perception.
