Amazon is a great way to get books in cycles if you're a voracious/quick reader. I typically receive a book, place another order on standard-delivery (about 5-8 business days or whatever), and finish the book in time for the next batch. It's a great built-in way to pace yourself.

Usually just go to Borders or Barnes & Noble, whichever is closest at the time, though I might start ordering from Amazon.

Used Amazon for a while, lately I go into the big bookstores and scan through their Sci Fi / Fantasy area for books.

Depends on the book for me... things I read just for entertainment (thrillers, fantasy, etc) I grab from amazon.com. But there's the occasional book or collection that just warrants something more - I get those from http://www.foliosoc.co.uk/

Books like Plato's "Republic", Aristotele's "Ethics" or collections of greek and british myths just wouldn't feel "right" in a $10 paperback edition. Plus they really come up with good covers

If I buy a softcover it's from Barnes and Noble but I love hardcovers. They just read better imo. Hardcovers I go to the Sci Fi book club for. I've been a SFBC member for years now and I really like the all-in-one volumes they put out. I've read a few series I probly wouldn't have bothered with because of those editions. It's also nice when they put together a package deal of a series at a discounted rate. I started reading the Malazan series that. Bought the first three books and saved like $25 or some shit even with the shipping included.

I've never not bought a book from Amazon.com. I know there are a couple bookstores nearby, but I can't remember ever stepping foot in one.

Well, that's not entirely true. I've purchased a few books from my college bookstore, but I don't think that counts because they were all school related.

Are you trying to say you don't buy books?

I think you're looking for Millie's TV House?

Never not was a double negative indicating that all his book purchases were through Amazon. Perhaps you're looking for Millie's Reading Comprehension House?

I've never bought a book online, personally. I'm not a big luddite, in fact I was swept into the orgiastic 90's dotcom buzz like everyone else in the industry, but I've never gone around to buying or even shopping for books online.

I live in Chicago and there's TONS of used bookstores everywhere, small mom-n-pop places with shitass organization, a permanent musty smell, cramped aisles and a cranky cigar-smoking clerk. I fucking love them. You find the rarest, hardest-to-find books in them for much, much cheaper and the people who work in such places actually know what they're talking about (impossible in a borders).

I'm always feeling sorry for these places, because they always seem dim and financially desperate places, but then you notice the signed hardcovers behind the counter with their 3-digit pricetags and that sympathy immediately evaporates, a couple of the places are ancient and pretty famous and have outlived the barnes/borders that sprouted up in their neighborhoods.

Barnes and Noble, is where I get my books. They have a great kids section there and I love to take my seven year old and let her browse with me.

It’s a fantastic way to spend an afternoon with her as well as get her excited about reading.

PS thanks Millie for the book section.

Barnes and Noble does have a fantastic kids section. My wife teaches 9-10 English as a Second Language (ESL) to all the illegals (well they're not all...but most :P) here in Houston. She spends a LOT of time in the kids section because they have a 6th, 7th or even lower reading level sometimes. Newbury award winners work well for her. One she just picked out that I thought was excellent is "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate DiCamillo. It's a cute adventure book about and adventurous mouse that falls in love with the castles princess and goes on a quest to save her from an evil rat. :P
Not sure what your daughters reading level is up to but I'm sure it'd be a fun book to read together too.
