I'm no gun expert but well, aren't pretty much all handguns semi-automatic? I mean, I know revolvers exist and all but they aren't exactly the standard weapon nor is there a ton of practical difference between them and a semi-auto pistol. It is not like between a bolt-action or semi-auto rifle when looking at handguns I assume.

They probably meant full-auto, but are obviously not gun people and so thought semi-auto is what they wanted to say. Everyone's heard of semi-automatic weapons (oh nohes, so bad!), so I guess it could be easily confused.

And yes, Northerner, pretty much all weapons outside of shotguns and some rifles are semi-automatic (and shit like revolvers). If anyone was going on a killing spree, there's absolutely no way they would be using anything that you had to load manually.

Edit: I looked it up, and apparently they make semi-auto shotguns too.

Yeah, well we'll see on that one. A "handgun" isn't readily mistaken for an automatic machine pistol. I'm inclined to go with the hype machine jumping on semi-auto as if it meant something when essentially it doesn't.

Nah, I heard someone on MSNBC say "semi-auto" like it was a big deal. These are news people who don't know shit about firearms and are just repeating what the military guy said.

Don't need anything more than a 15+ round clip semi-auto to essentially shoot fish in a barrel and get 20-30 decent hits.

Pretty sure they brought it up because one of the early witnesses (a soldier on the base) said they heard "Semi-auto fire" as well as what sounded like "handgun" fire.

When something this sad and tragic happens, it feels a little better if its not just some random crazy person. The human mind wants to put a motive in there. A grand scheme to "justify" the terrible loss. I think its a coping mechanism. my heart goes out to those families.

No you stupid bitchfuck. He went into a building chock full of people and opened fire in a place where no one was expecting that sort of thing. Also, when we're doing our predeployment SRC and have to go to the medical part, you go as a Company element (not always though)..so there were potentially a couple hundred soldiers standing in lines or gathered in a common area waiting their turn. You could walk in there blindfolded and start pulling the trigger, empty muliple clips and watch the statistics grow.

There was no amazing skill involved.
