There is no reason to believe that excessive resources went into trying to capture Polanski. Certainly not to the level where the money could have been used to "save thousands".

In fact, one of the reasons the LA DA recently got more active in trying to get him was because his US attorneys tried to have the case against him dismissed citing the lack of any active pursuit by US law enforcement.

Well I think that's kind of the central issue: those who believe criminal justice is essentially about society getting vengeance and the person being punished vs. those who think criminal justice should be centered on rehabilitation and/or having a net benefit to society. If you're with the former, then you want that fucker sent to jail. If you're with the latter, you don't give much of a shit because no good will come of him being thrown in jail.

The amount of attention being paid to a rape that is 30 years old is mind boggling, in my view.

All trolling aside... I still don't understand. Specifically, I don't understand why a bunch of really famous, high profile guys would go out of their way to support a rapist.

And I don't understand the sympathy either. Guy raped a 13 year old girl, fuck him, seriously. Why does this guy warrant any sympathy from anyone? Because he directed a few good movies?

Our criminal justice system has never done more than pay lip service to rehabilitation.

how can you wonder how something like this can happen after the way the media completely retconned Michael Jackson's past after he died? i swear if people didnt know any better they would think he made all his hits in the 80s then went into suspended animation til 2009 where he died and was immediately given saint status. MJ was much worse than this silly frenchman. at least Polanski raped a girl who reached puberty. MJ buttfucked boys young enough to still believe in santa claus
