| On the horizon... An android 2.1 capable phone, sold directly by google with no locking and usable on whatever network you want. Apparently $199 or $99 if you have a "long standing google account). Apparently you will be able to get a "data only" sim for it too and not have a traditional voice connection. But it will do all your calls and SMS over VOIP using Google Voice. Linky : Nexus One Pricing and Release Date Announced - buy google phone, buy nexus one, google data plans, Google phone, google phone pricing, google phone release date, nexus one, nexus one pricing, nexus one release date, nexus one t-mobile - Technically P That has some of the preliminary info, there are many other articles out there on it. This will probably replace my phone in January. |

How much data do VOIP calls take? Or would this data SIM be unlimited? That article seems kinda vague. Either way, seems kinda cool, especially the amount I use my phone, I definitely would love to get a smartphone and only pay that much per month for a data plan(price gauging on data plans is what keeps me from buying a smartphone).

| From what I am reading, the data plan is the $29 a month sim. THen VOIP for calls and SMS. Which would effectively be a $29 a month unlimited call and data plan without a contract I think. Of, if you're like me, you buy it and just take the SIM from your existing phone and drop into it. I have a G1 from t-mobile and have loved it. I am not sure how much I'd like not having a keyboard though. |

+54 Internets | $29/month? Goodbye iPhone. I already do my calling and texting through Google Voice anyway - it will be less cumbersome with a native application rather than a jailbroken one. Although: how does Gtalk replace SMS? Quote:

+54 Internets | Given how frequently my calls are dropped with AT&T, getting away from them doesn't sound like a bad thing. Unless the rest are even worse, but that's hard to imagine. Or maybe it's something with the iPhone 3G. However, if it does VOIP, couldn't it just use wifi where available? |

That makes the fact that it's sold unlocked a lot less appealing. Still, I suppose if you can get it for $99 without a contract (i.e. with the google rebate thing) it would be a passable replacement for those of us who had G1's right out of the gate. | |

| Forgive my ignorance but how beneficial is that exactly? Does it mean that you'll be able to pay the same price for all the same features among all of the carriers except for Sprint? With 80,000 less apps...
