one thing that strikes me as odd is that your traffic tickets get thrown out if you appear in court because the cop doesn't.

What? Isn't that part of his fucking job? What's he doing instead?

A lot of times cops don't appear in court because they're at work, doing their cop thing. Considering how much they get paid (in my area at least, sheesh), I doubt their bosses would let them take the time to appear in court. Its a numbers game, pull over an assload of people and hope you get some of them. Most of the time you still get dicked by fees, so they make a buck off you anyway. Their biggest stab though is getting you to come in and miss work, so even if you get away "scott free", you still get an ass kicking to the wallet.

Some of my relatives and I got away free on a fireworks possession charge, because the court date was like...after Christmas and we had gotten caught shooting off fireworks on July 4th. The guy had gotten accepted to Highway Patrol so chances are his boss wasn't going to let him come in for it. The guy with the case after us I'm sure got fucked though, the cop for his case showed up at the last second with a handful of paperwork and a smile on his face. Not sure what he did, but he probably got boned lol.

I used to hear that "they get thrown away if they arent there" excuse, but some people have told me that their written testimony is good enough if they arent there

I haven't read the whole thread but I'm going to make a few comments about my situation.

There's no doubt in my mind that the case will be thrown out of court whether the officer shows up or not. While as Eomer said that BC officers are considered experts, I only think that only holds up as a fact they can give anyone they deem speeding a ticket. However, I don't think the word of an officer is good enough for court. Humans make error, and most of all, can lie. It's his word against mine and officers are no saint that's for sure.

That's true but who the fuck does that? Takes more effort to write something up then go to court for overtime pay.

Something to note, not all police force offer overtime pay for court appearances. Those forces are much LESS likely to show up in court.

Most of you sound like you deserved those tickets.
Go go cops.
Just drive more careful.

Driving carefully isn't the issue. Driving the speed limit set in the 1970s when most cars had trouble reaching 70mph is the issue.

I wrote a lady a ticket today for an expired registration, inspection sticker, no insurance, and children not in car seats.

She is very polite and respectful.

She pulls off and drives two blocks, then pulls over at a homeless shelter.

I drive up and watch as she and her children get out and go inside. I go in and ask her if she lives there. She states yes, she lost her job and had to move in.

I asked for the ticket back and tore it up in front of her and said, "I didn't write you a ticket. Good luck ma'am."

That was cool of you. That said, people who don't buckle their kids in are fucked up. Keep that shit up and she's one car wreck from being jobless, homeless, carless and kidless.

With the kids gone, she could probably afford an apartment again.

Someone had to say it.

To be fair, he said the kids weren't in car seats, not that they weren't buckled up.
