| Senator Reid is about to announce that he is sending a couple of public option with the Senate Health Care bill to the CBO. Edit: He prefers the "Opt-Out" version. Edit2: He says he's confident that after the CBO scores the Senate Plan he will have 60 votes. Last edited by MagicNumbers; 10-26-2009 at 01:27 PM.. |

Again, this is a short term funding problem, not a problem of finding people sufficiently educated to attend med school. There's plenty of reasons why a privately funded med schools won't solve this problem (or far too slowly to see it in our lifetime), so the only way is for the government to invest in healthcare, and among the possible investment, getting more doctors is certainly one of the best it could do (except for the existing doctors...). Surgeons sure they deserve a premium, but to argue that doctors in general are three times as valuable as engineers is skewing the perception of Doctors towards the high end while ignoring all the things engineers do for us.

EDIT - After further review, I am impressed that Yahoo! posted the same article, nearly verbatim, on consecutive days. But the headlines are different, I guess. Maybe their Business and Politics sections have different editors, or don't communicate, or something. But beyond the "HUR DUR WHAT HAPPENED 2 PAGES AGO" shenanigans, hey guys, I guess the media is pretty retarded in whatever direction it wants to stumble into. How. Fucking. Interesting.

+4 Internets | Want more doctors? Subsidize their education (same goes with nurses as they are becoming more and more "doctory" as time goes on; granted, many fail out of both schools. Why this country thinks education starts at college is beyond me). If not, we pay them lots.

How you can be against allowing health providers to compete across state lines, yet be for states to opt out of the public option is beyond me.

| The reason anyone is against health insurance companies providing services across state lines is because they would all congregate in the state with the least tax and or regulation. They also currently have an exemption from anti-trust laws which more than likely will be removed before too long. Edit: Apparently, states have until 2014 to "opt-out" of the public option and everyone is expecting the CBO to score the Senate bill + public option quite well. | Maybe that's part of the problem. Why does medical treatment cost so much that you HAVE to have insurance in order to be able to get treatment. If this reform is really about lowering health care costs for people that should be getting addressed rather than "how do we get more people on insurance plans". |
