finding a crazy on national tv doesn't count? well, it's more relevant to the health care thread but how about a crazy national party?

Quote:
The Republican national party has mailed a fundraising appeal suggesting Democrats might use an overhaul of the health care system to deny medical treatment to Republicans.

A questionnaire accompanying the appeal says the government could check voting registration records, "prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system."

It asks, "Does this possibility concern you?"

Oh dear... he didn't know...

Sarah Palin has Glenn Beck's back | Midwest Voices

Quote:
Palin this week says on her Facebook page:

"FOX News' Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House. Monday night he asked us to invite one friend to watch; tonight I invite all my friends to watch."
When the most popular person in your party and one of the likely front runners for a Presidential bid endorses someone like that and urges everyone to watch... yea.. you gots yourself a problem.

If only that were true. Way too many people believe the BS that mouth breather craps out every night. He, Palin, and Hannity spread ignorance and incompetence like the plague.

Its actually pretty sad. I think that if many of the more moderate people in the republican party would break off and start a fiscally conservative party that didn't bother trying to control society's private behavior, they'd do well and I might actually support them. None of the people I know who think of themselves as conservatives or republicans think Palin is anything other than a bad joke..

Posting here as it was brought up just a few pages back concerning the release of the Pan Am Bomber.

This will be interesting.

Lockerbie bomber 'set free for oil' - Times Online

Quote:
The letters were sent two years ago by Jack Straw, the justice secretary, to Kenny MacAskill, his counterpart in Scotland, who has been widely criticised for taking the formal decision to permit Megrahi’s release.

The correspondence makes it plain that the key decision to include Megrahi in a deal with Libya to allow prisoners to return home was, in fact, taken in London for British national interests.

They should just have claimed Kadafi was building WMD's, oh wait. Disgusting business though.

It's not just on this forum, you'll notice that prety much no european leader commented this. There's hardly any outrage in France, even thought one of the 2 planes Lybia shot down was french, Sarkozy went to the 40th aniversary of Kadafi's rule and you won't find press articles saying it's a bad thing neither will you find large number of people really caring about it. I guess people's point of view is that the future is more important than the past, and that Lybia terrorism is considered as a thing of the past.

I don't know what it is with Gadaffi, but the guy holds a shitload of power for ruling such a poor and small country. Even with the oil, he seems more influential than other oil exporters - or maybe just more willing to flaunt that power. Right now, he's demanding ransom money before releasing the two Swiss he's holding hostage. Any other country would be chastized for it, whereas he's probably going to get paid. Our president had nothing better to do than to travel to Libya and apologize in the name of all Swiss for the treatment of Gadaffi's son - the guy who, along with his wife, severely injured their employees by beating them and got to spend a night in jail.

For me it is one of those things that is so fucking obnoxious, that what can you do but /facepalm

Industrialized governments making really offensive decisions in the name of oil is hardly a recent phenomenon.

I think its one of the few pieces of evidence that god exists. Some kind of grand joke by putting the most vital resource we have in the hands of a bunch of fucking retards.

They were nomadic shepherds a hundred years ago, and they'll be shepherds again in another hundred.

Maybe some real geologists or historians can correct me on this but........

Step 1: create a nice area between two rivers by making all sorts of life in a spot.
Step 2: Turn that into the cradle of civilization because the people there will be more prone to building up culture due to the life there.
Step 3: Consume all the resources and turn the land into a big piece of shit mostly.
Step 4: Realize that the affect of Step 1 also made a bunch of oil there because the oil formed from the dead remains between the two rivers!!
Step 5: Turn those wandering nomads into oil barons.

I saw a chart once that took a measure of human rights in Russia and put it next to the price of oil. As the price of oil went up, human rights declined. There's some pretty good evidence that natural resources lead to worse governance, though I'm not quite sure why. Definitely more corruption, but I don't think that's the only reason.

On a side note: since Libya is chairing the UN assembly, they want to put forward the motion to dissolve Switzerland. Gadaffi is such a joke... they should have kept his son locked up.
