Funny that Mel Martinez (R-FL, Hispanic) voted "Yes" to Sotomayor and the Southern coalition of Republicans did not. Their only criteria was that she was Hispanic. It had nothing to do with her ideology, views, or her understanding of the Constitution. Ultimately, Republicans only base their votes on race, nothing else. That is why their Southern Strategy was so valuable and is now biting them in the ass. They just doubled down on their strategy.

Fox News just called her "Jenny from the Block". A fucking Supreme Court Justice, "Jenny from the Block". What the fuck is that?

Keep telling yourself that they only voted "no" based on race. I mean it could obviously never be that she makes unconstitutional rulings or that she is anti-second amendment. It would be ludicrous to claim those southern Republicans represent citizens who support the second amendment. They MUST be voting just because she is latin. There is just no other way.

Honestly, I can not stand the hispanics that vote for her just because she is hispanic. That is racism at its finest. We do not need a wise latina judge. We need a wise judge, regardless of race. ? Which minority supreme court nominees were those?

Harriet Miers and Clarence Thomas? All 2 of them?

Miers never went to a vote and Thomas was accused of serious misconduct.

Nominations were pretty much cakewalks til Bork and after Bork the only minority republican Supreme Court nominees were Thomas and Miers. And if you want to go back to BEFORE Bork - Oconnor was confirmed 99-0.
