The speed thing does go back and forth depending on the program and process. There is definitely no clear winner. The only reason I would have ever considered an Apple was the Cinema displays. Which I actually got one hooked up to my PC. haha. And you can get comparable displays for PC's now, so even that is a moot point. | |

| Pretty much sounds like BS from a jealous MS employee. I just don't understand how Microsoft can spend so much money on advertising and come up with such terrible, boring commercials. Oh and say what you want, Apple-built computers are generally much higher quality than a Dell or HP. They use better materials, take more pride in the design and craftsmanship, use higher grade CPU's and RAM (they actually test the variations in heat output rather than just take the bottom of the barrel stuff), and are on average more reliable. Yes, they are certainly overpriced, but it's nice that they aren't simply playing a price war, but stick to innovating and making quality products as well. Do they use some magically superior plastic? There's nothing different about the CPU's they're just some Intel Model, no different then what any PC maker gets.

| I can dance if I want to | I just wanna point out again that them being more expensive is partially a myth, if you frequently upgrade your computer every 2-3 years it's cheaper. I sold my 28 month old MBP for $1030 when I only paid $1580 for it new. Being such a closed market, they depreciate incredibly slowly, and rarely to below 25% of MSRP(like...ever...see EQmac thread for how much Emacs and shit still go for). Custom built machines depreciate to almost nothing after a few years till about 5yrs later you might as well recycle them. Just remember when buying things the price on the sticker is never the REAL cost... |

| If these commercials are working, we need to pool our resources to fund a good one explaining how giving men blowjobs helps women reduce their chances of breast cancer.

| I bought a macbook 2 years ago. I really liked OSX at first. I became one of those flag waving Mactards. Fast forward 24 months. It's covered in cracks now, where the shitty design of the magnets have destroyed the case. This is the second time it has happened - the first time apple repaired it for me. They offered to repair it free this time too but the cracks will be back in another 6 months. Also, the white plastic is getting heavily discoloured in certain areas where the macbook gets hot. Superior materials my ass. The thing has one mouse button, which means I have to press an additional keyboard key to access sub-menus. That or place two fingers on the trackpad and THEN click. The only thing that made me realise my ignorance was when I bought my first new desktop recently. I installed XP (then deleted it) then Vista (then kept it, solely for Visual Studio - maybe I should just use a VM though). I have since entirely dumped MS operating systems and moved back to SuSE after a 6+ year absence. I downloaded OpenOffice, Wine, Netbeans and OpenArena. I'll be installing suse on my macbook soon I think and dumping OSX. The moral of the story. Fuck Apple, Fuck Microsoft. Both are unnecessary. |
