Pool Boots Kids Who Might "Change the Complexion" | NBC Philadelphia

i used to go to this pool as a kid, my mom and aunt used to swim there when they were kids... can't say i disagree with the pools decision to kick them out, its a really nice, quiet, upscale joint for families and if they were to allow a bunch of hoodlums to run amock there would be serious problems with the families who have been coming there for generations.

I'm suprised anyone in Philly would think they could do some kind of public activity and have no non-whites involved.

Club fucked up by taking their money, but otherwise I have no problems with private clubs discriminating for whatever reason they feel like.

its not really in NE philly, it's in the nearby suburbs... it's in huntingdon valley, a very ritzy and uptight area, lots of jews and shit too, hence the name "the valley club"

On one hand, yeah, everyone knows that area is where all the racists move to. On the other hand, it's 90 minutes of a single day a week. The pool owner should have kept his testicles and told the patrons to just not come monday afternoons if skin color was a problem for them.

Not that I agree with them getting kicked out, but it sounds like they may have been looking for trouble trying to go to that particular pool.

What if a bunch of bunch of white boys dressed in their private school uniforms went to try and play some basketball on a public court deep in the projects of some community. Regardless of the race of the locals(although mostly non white depending on the area), they are going to all get high fives and allowed to play on the court right?

It's one thing if its a bunch of kids going to a particular pool just to start trouble but that story was short and very vague so I didn't really see anything about that. All I saw was "Black kids came to pool, white kids left, black kids got kicked out"

It's a private pool though so I guess you can do that sort of thing. Oh well.

Although on face value that would appear to be a fair comparison it makes the flawed assumption that each side is of similar socio-economic status and therefore reversing the situation is a fair move. Unfortunately, it is not. The blacks are going to be of the right opinion that those privileged whites have countless high quality courts to choose from but are instead choosing to occupy one of the few places that blacks feel is really theirs.

In short, the two groups are not on equal footing to begin with.
