I think you did not get the concept: the only applications for Google Chrome OS will be web based applications.

Unless Google can get software producers to port software over to their version of Linux (whichever they use and modify for their OS), it won't make any difference.

The problem is Google isn't focusing on getting developers to port software to the OS, they're pushing for everybody to write all their apps web based and then the chrome browsers will be the platform the app runs on, as well as IE, and Firefox.

To me this would indicate they will live and die by how much people like web based apps. And software companies aren't embracing them as much because it's harder to drive profit from web based apps as a developer.

Try spending a week without running a single program other than your web browser on your pc and see how much you can get done... No thanks. This seems to target people that buy e machines and all they do is check their e-mail/spend their time on social networking websites and that's it.

In terms of innovation over the last 15 years I would rate Google ahead of Microsoft and either ahead of or equal to Apple.

Google knows how to assemble a good product without extra shit getting in the way. (Animated search dogs come to mind here.) I think they will have a good product, especially since they seem to be focusing on instant availability and other things people want from an internet "appliance".

The innovation will be great, every app you run will have some nice big advertisement on it taking up UI space. Google is all about the advertising revenue, if a product doesn't produce add revenue it gets scrapped. Google Sync Google Browser Sync is a good example of a useful and well made app that gets scrapped because it doesn't help them generate money. Do you think there would be gmail if it didn't have 1/3 of the screen taken up by ads when reading your e-mail? Of course not that's their business.

They treat the people that count well though. As soon as I started making 20k/month with ad words they started sending me some interesting tech toys for free.

I'm still fucking pissed off that function doesn't exist.

That being said, I DO have Chrome installed on my laptop, and had it on my Netbook when I still had it, as well as REALLY got into the whole Android OS thing as well.

I like what they can create with some help from outsiders (coughHTCcough) but I'm not holding my breath here.

It does. I don't know when they added it, but it even supports 8-way directional scrolling instead of just up-down-left-right!

I would guess the fact they made their own browser probably played a part in it too.
