+6 Internets | For OCD desktop icon people, Deskview works with Windows 7. I enjoy list view much better than the default view settings: DeskView Also, hold Ctrl and mouse wheel up/down to increase/decrease icon size. Do you really not like the new Start Menu/Taskbar? I am a huge fan of the way they work now days. The little shortcut aspects of them have become so ingrained in the way I work it is annoying not being on 7. I.e. Windows + left/right = fits a window to that half of a screen Shift + click any open program on the taskbar = opens a new instance of the application = this is more for my work than anything else. | The "Default Setup" is just horrible for "old timers" and yes i am serious. Now while 7 might be great for new users (which is what matters the most)... As someone that has been using 3.11 like interface for 20 years getting "all flashy macstyle stuff" is not what you would expect. Or at least to be given the possibility to "have stuff like always" -> You can not easily change the icons of your files : Still not done -> Default icons on the desktop are fucking huge : Takes 60 secs. -> The good old "Start Menu" is gone (the smart start menu is nifty, the all programs part just sucks) -> Flashy Effects Suck : Still at the same place System Properties / Performance Properties -> Windows Classic Theme just sucks : Needed some tweaking. Changing the looks of icon is for convenience : all "video" now have the same icon, all music, etc etc. (flv, avi, mp4, mpg, wmv, mkv, ) Are you saying that your first reaction to Seven (having totally skipped Vista) was not WTF ? (where are my menus/options/icons/etc/etc). Its the "Office 2007 Nightmare" all over again. I'm almost back to what i wanted "good old 95/98 view interface". No Aero, No Bells & Whistles, No Macintosh Clone. |

+228 Internets | Shortcuts you can change the icon of simply straight from the properties menu. Actual files however require a reg tweak to change which is pretty stupid. However, even more retarded is that if you're that OCD about your icons, you can just download any number of programs/plugins that'll let you easily manipulate your icons without needing to do reg changes yourself. Being old doesn't excuse being retarded. It's EmiliaEQ. I think he just honestly doesn't know better half the time judging by his post history. Last edited by Zehn - Vhex; 12-20-2009 at 02:06 AM.. |

| Just got done installing Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade. No, that's not quite right. Just got done un-installing Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade and re-installing Win XP. Thank God I still had my Win 98 disk since apparantly down-grading to XP requires a previous OS disk...lol. Now to be clear I'm ready and willing to embrace Win 7. Sadly it doesn't seem to be a mutual feeling. I could not get Win 7 to connect to the internet. Probably something stupid I'm missing but I spent about 6 hours trying to connect and no dice. I went from a wireless adapter to just running an ethernet cable straight from my cable modem to the PC. Yeah, it would recognize some 'Unidentified Network' and wouldn't let me connect to it. I ran a 'Diagnose problem' and it would come back with invalid IP address. Okay, I just got 20 inches of snow here, maybe right while I was installing Win 7 the weather killed my connection? Pulled out the trusty XP disk, fresh install and lo and behold XP recognizes my cable connection right off the bat. Win 7 refused to see it and even asked me for some BS username/password. I guess I need to call up MS and ask them what my username/password is since I've never had one before this. On the plus side, Win 7 Chess Titans is tons of fun. Killed about 4 hours with it.

| I'm sorry if i troubled you ! i didnt know this was the "Praise Windows Seven" thread because windows seven was your idea... There is a huge difference between "seeing vista on a friends laptop" and "using seven". Another detail : Show Desktop is now on the bottom right (near the clock) instead of the bottom left near the start menu. Of course its fixable, but its one more thing to add to the "annoying" list. Its not about beeing old or beeing retarded, i do not like change, period. You're just tools refusing to admit some of my points are valid. I'm willing to bet if i we listened to you the "Office 2007 Menu Style" was brilliant. I know the "windows interface" was stolen from Apple, but i mean whats Aero exept the "Hey lets outdo Mac with flashy effects & gimicks" ![]() |
