| Need some tips on quick, safe, weight loss So as some of you know, I am in the Army. Well my neighbor want's to join. He's 23, about 5'10'' or 11'' and weighs about 220 lbs, so he's a bit overweight. He wants me to help him slim down before he goes to a recruiter, I think he would pass the height/weight reqs. already, but he says he wants to go to BCT a few lbs lighter. So I agreed to help him, thing is, we both work full time jobs. I already have some things outlined to do, but I figured I'd get some ideas or tips from people that may know more than I do. I'm an Infantryman, so I'm aware of how to keep in shape, I've just never been tasked with something like this. Thanks in advance.

| That's pretty much what I have him doing, plus, no beer. I told him water only, no fast food, and walk/sprint regimen. Keep the advice rolling.

+31 Internets | Lots of water. Water until you feel like you could puke straight water and you have to piss all the time. Control cravings for snacks by slugging water until it fills your stomach. Water, water, water. (Don't drown him or anything obviously, be reasonable, but lots of water!) Also, no food for at least two hours before sleep. Eat big (sensible) breakfasts, solid lunches, light dinners. Last edited by Fammaden; 06-22-2009 at 10:00 PM.. |

| Lol, you'd love the military then. They have "mandatory hydration" during training in the field, you always have your Camel-Bak and/or canteens full at ALL times.

| They have a program now where if you don't meet the weight you can sign up and meet with an instructor once a week for up to a year to make the weight... Although to be honest I'm not sure what the benefits are over say just losing weight and then enlisting. Saw a deal on the news about it recently, just thought I'd bring that up even tho you said he would probably make the weight. |

| If I remember correctly the weight limit for 5'11 is 193 lbs I think 5'10 is 185, but I'm not sure.

| I'm also doing some weight training with him to, so that should help. As for what the reqs. are for height/weight, I don't remember either, I enlisted 5 1/2 years ago and was 5' 10'' at 155lbs

| Only if you don't meet the predetermined height/weight ratio. So if you can be 5' 10'' and max weight is 190lbs, but you're 196lbs then they bust out the calipers and tape. Or at least that's how it was then, should be the same because I haven't hear otherwise.

| What exactly does drinking a shit load of just water do to help lose weight? Serious question. I drink much more water these days than I used to, though still enjoy my diet drinks. I just didn't know that drinking an extreme amount of water can speed up(?)/assist in weight loss and curious what exactly it does for the body. |

+11 Internets | Consistent, small flow of food so the stomach doesn't stretch. Vegetables as snacks (the horror!). Cut out caffeine, and limit sugar to early in the day. High fiber (Kashi fiber+protein cereal is awesome). And I'm pretty sure the water thing is just a habit to switch out for eating.
