| Brilliant! | Twitter is everywhere nowadays. Column writers have started including tweets as part of their user submitted questions (if they have a section like that) along with the usual emails. My company has even begun using a Twitter type application called Yammer for business oriented micro-blogging. |

+69 Internets | Even with venture capital or a huge buyout, how do the investors/buyers get their money back out of it? Just keeping selling it to new buyers/investors like a profitless hot potato?

If you have billions of people going to your website every month, you will be approached by so many businesses throwing money at you just to have a taste of the supple traffic nectar. How does your website become profitable? Just be a top 1000 site and companies will give you money to figure that out for you. Last edited by Tyen; 06-20-2009 at 08:37 PM.. | |

| Can I be a contrarian about this "twitter is really important" thing? If Twitter didn't exist, any Iranian could do exactly the same thing in the same way with blog posts + RSS, secure instant messaging, or message boards (and they are, anyway.) It's cool to see people using new things, and the media loves to play trendspotter, but Twitter is not really in any unique role here. I'd expect a more internet-savvy audience to pick up on that. |

| I believe there were a lot of buyout offers on Twitter a while back but they didn't want to accept any of them. The guys who started it had success with something else and made some money that time so they weren't interested in cashing out. Oh, in terms of money it probably costs a lot more than you would expect. They probably need a lot of servers and bandwidth to run the site. |

+29 Internets | Isn't that true of like, the entire internet? Who gives a shit what percentage of the users are creating what percentage of the content? Yeah, I'd give up being a millionaire over that too. ![]() |
