well alright Tuco, since you are so busy, I'll try to give you a glimpse at what google is saying this thing can do.

Imagine, if you will, a time in the not-so-distant future where you stumble upon some nude pictures on the internet and wish to share them. You will open up the pretty girl wave and simply drag and drop them in.

When you are done chatting, you will open up the built in slide show so that you are not..interrupted..by having to scroll down.

You will have bots to help you manage the wave. You could have one that auto-deletes any pic with the name "tub girl" and automatically bans the guy that added it. It might even be possible to have a bot that can check for re-posts and send out auto-negs for it.

The best part is that you can have a second pretty girl wave that is auto-updated with just the pics so that those of us that want to just see boobies don't have to wade though posts asking Wolfen to start adding fat chicks.

The impressive thing is the merging of many different tools that use many different protocols and applications into a single powerful protocol.

The hyper spell checker and the hyper translator are also jaw dropping.

There are many question marks though: how much more traffic does it generate at a global scale if it becomes widely used? How much power will be needed server side when every single waver typing means contextual cross-checking on a giganormous server side database? What... is... the... business... model? Maybe the final version will have Ady: the bot that adds commercial links into your waves?

Why do they have to profit on waves itself?

Their basic business plan could be "email is old and blows ass, so does using lots of different tools for 1 idea, communicating. If we introduce Waves and successfully get it implemented as the new global standard not only do we nutbust Microsoft's stranglehold on the email client market and crimp their Office/Exchange profits but we can then offer all these new cool toys like publishing tools which will be based on Waves which we WILL charge for".

Again, server load not on Google, just the same as how the whole world's email is not run on Google's servers.

Don't be fooled there are big piles of money to be made from this "free" product. Something like wave was going to come out. The way Google is going about it ensures that they will be able to control it, specifically that it is server based (as opposed to p2p.) Google is going to be making a killing on servers alone.

They are also going to be able to make money off apps and bots. Even more important, they are going to be able to make money by having a store to sell other people's apps and bots.

The big money, though, will be in converting companies over to wave and customizing it to fit exactly what the company needs.

If google doesn't give basic wave tech away, then the switch over to it much slower. In order for google to make lots of cash, they need everyone running to check it out. That is not going to happen if they charge for it.
