True... but the rest of the world didn't exactly know Jews were being exterminated by Hitler and that was in the heart of Europe when all eyes were pointed in his direction. No where was it cited the reason for going to war against Nazi Germany was to save Jews, it was to stop Hitler's conquest of Europe and Russia, the holocaust was discovered during and after the war, not before it. It was the same with the Raping of Nanking by the Japanese.

Stalin sent political dissenters to Siberia. This would be like rounding people up within America and sending them to the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. There was absolutely no means of escape, and no way of sending word of what was happening to you.

Keep in mind this was the 40's, satellites, global communications, etc. just didn't exist in the same fashion they do now. Information didn't just soar across continents on twitter like it does now. North Koreans now have absolutely no internet access whatsoever, no cell phones, and word of the camps has only come out from defectors and escapees and it has been going on for upwards of 40 years.

I'm not advocating a preemptive strike on North Korea, but feeding an enemy that has on more than one occasion voiced an interest in your nuclear destruction is rather ridiculous.

Not true. The Allies had disturbingly accurate information throughout the entirety of the extermination campaign.

Safety is worth the money spent threefold. I am talking global safety.

If he STARTS some shit you best believe we should finish it. Noone is looking for us to start this 'war'.

What makes Africans better then Koreans to you? Internet and electricity are more important then civil rights?

I have a copy of an old book called You Can't Do Business With Hitler. It was written in 1940 by the person who used to be the US trade representative and commercial attache to the 3rd Reich (my copy was printed July '41). It is an argument from economic and business terms why the US must go to war with Germany, and why delaying that war will hurt the US from a purely trade and business perspective. In this book, he mentions the concentration camps and how the inmates are worked to death.

Last time I checked abebooks.com (the source of used books for both amazon and b&n), there were more than 140 copies of the book available ranging from under a dollar to "too much."

We knew damned well what Hilter was doing to the Jews. We just didn't care.

Huh I'm more impressed by our 4,200 mile test fires a few days ago.

SEOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea test-fired what appeared to be two short-range missiles off its east coast Thursday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

"One was fired at 5:20 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m. from Sinsang-ni," near the eastern coastal city of Wonsan, South Korean defense ministry spokesman Won Tae-jae said, according to Yonhap.

The launch was expected. The North Korean government issued a warning to mariners to avoid an area in the Sea of Japan at certain times between June 24 and July 9 because of a "military firing exercise," according to a U.S. military communication about the warning provided to CNN.

The North issued a similar warning before testing a long-range missile in April, but that warning indicated two potential danger areas more indicative of a long-range missile test.

Thursday's reported test comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula. North Korea conducted a nuclear test in May, fired test rockets and threatened U.S. and South Korean ships near its territorial waters.

Analyst Daniel Pinkston said the reported test might be training for a future test but it also could just be a routine military exercise.

"It is worrisome to some degree, but it is different from a ballistic missile launch," said Pinkston of the International Crisis Group in Seoul, South Korea.

"It's part of military training, but there seem to be no movements of troops or anything that would suggest preparations for military operations.

"So yes, people are watching it, the military is watching it here, but I don't' think it's related to any plans or operations to attack anyone."

They knew about the work camps, but they didn't have information on them exterminating them until much later. I don't think the final solution even started till what? 42 onward? Some history channel documentary I watched had an OSS officier on it saying that they got the reports that they were starting to kill them but they couldn't see why they would as they represented a large work force for the war effort and figured it for misinformation. Confirmation came much later when they started to invade and saw the full extent of it.

it still makes no sense to just simply execute that many people. i could sort of see dumping them off in the wilderness or some captured country to fend for themselves if they couldnt house that many people at the camps anymore. but just methodically exterminating them? ridiculous, they could easily have taken all the jews and exiled them to the middle east or something, its not like the arabs could have done anything to stop them.

pretty sure this is correct. the final solution wasnt until 1942. there were lots of atrocities before that such as pogroms and anti jew raids like kristallnacht.

hitler devoted so much money, resources, and manpower to killing jews and other "non essentials" that some historians speculate that germany may have won the war had they spent more time fighting the war and less time exterminating people.

But is the war really worth winning if you didn't kill millions of jews? I think not.
