| I want to be clear that I'm not jumping on the conspiracy bandwagon and I really don't think that this is going to trigger a new pandemic but you can be sure that by the time the government is telling people that the shit has hit the fan the walls will already be caked brown with flung poop that has long since dried. The seriousness is irrelevant to the kind of official response we can expect. No matter the situation a panic will only make things worse and potentially cripple our ability to respond so just keep telling everyone that everything is fine. Swing flu not a big deal? Rocket sled to Hell? The message is going to be the same. "It's a serious situation but the CDC is confident they can control the outbreak. Fortunately our existing vaccines are proving effective and other advances in epidemiology over the last few years have given us the ability to blah blah blah." They wouldn't tell you if the vaccines were useless so it doesn't matter. It wouldn't help a single thing for us to know that. Hell, the economic instability alone could lead to more suffering than swine flu itself. |

| and they're still lieing about the severity of the situation. They'll just pump as much of our tax money into the economy as possible and hope that everything returns to normal before everything collapses completly. |

| Given Kugbock's rampant pot smoking and penchant for fear mongering, I'd say the problem with that line is a lack of a proper double negative (i.e. isn't instead of is).

| Well 40 infections in the US at 5% death rate = potentially 2 deaths. It's hardly a statistically large enough infection base to be able to say if there will or won't be a need for panic. Plus, people who present the flu in the U.S. will get quick access to anti-viral drugs. I'm wonder what a virus like this could do in a place like India. Massive population, low sanitary levels and congested urban regions. Last edited by K`Lag; 04-27-2009 at 02:08 PM.. |
