Pirates fail to hijack ship full of Americans, lol

US Crew Back in Control of Hijacked Ship - General * Europe * News * Story - CNBC.com

U.S. Crew Back in Control of Ship Seized by Pirates (Update2) - Bloomberg.com

I love how they've hijacked countless ships from numerous countries.

They hijack a US ship and fail miserably, oh the irony. Love it.

America! Fuck yea!

little did they know that Jack Bauer, Gunney Highway, Casey Ryback, Frank Dux, and John Rambo were on board enjoying a leisurely day of yachting

You gotta have some huge balls to be a pirate in this day and age.

The Bloomberg article states that 165 ships were attacked by pirates last year, with only 43 being successfully hijacked. So 3/4s of ships regardless of whom the crew is fight off the pirates.

I think that means they get attacked by pirates but fail. I believe in this case the pirates took the ship and the crew took it back.

The bottom of the article there's a paraphrase from the USN saying that ships need to begin fighting back, that many failed attacks were due to crews fighting back in the past few months.

Not minimizing what the US crew did, but it's not like other crews from other places just roll over either.

This is better than what happened like a week ago. Pirates attacked a German NATO ship that was sent to the area to fight the piracy problem. Then like a year or two ago, they decided to attack a US Destroyer.

Kind of surprised the US Military doesn't use their Djibouti base more often to take out the pirate hideouts where they're unloading all their shit. One AC-130 would do the trick, especially since they periodically go in to Somalia anyway to take out alleged al-Qaeda targets.

Why would most crews fight back though? Seems no different to a bank robbery where you just sit back and let them take the money and let insurance take care of it, rather then risk dying to save some other guys money.

They tend to take the crews hostage for a while as well, and while I don't think there have been many deaths so far, I'd rather not leave my life in their hands, thanks.

The passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 think you're a pussy.

Aren't merchant levels required to be unarmed by law anyways? Can't really fight back when all you have is a crowbar... Oh wait!

Seems like the captain is being held, don't know if it's on the ship or if the pirates took him.

Regardless, what impresses me is that this is a emergency food relief ship.
