| ISPs Capping internet usage [road runner] Today I found out that Road Runner is capping internet usage for Rochester. They will have tiered plans that will go from 5GBs to 40GBs allowed per month. Anything over that cap will cost an extra $1 per GB downloaded. This basically makes netflix instant watch useless. (at least HD movies) One movie usually uses from 5-10GBs! We usually watch about 3-4 movies per week. So that is 105GBs per month! And that is not counting torrents, games, normal internet usage, emails, video streams, VoIP, etc.... What the hell are they thinking? If I can find a different company, we are definitely canceling our service. (as I am sure a lot of people will) They probably have plans to expand this tiered cap to other locations in the future as well! +2 Internets | God damn, 40GB? I thought my buddy had it bad at 200GB up here w/ Comcast in WA state. I'm glad I've switched to Verizon business class FIOS. No caps, and if they change the terms on my contract to include internet usage caps I can cancel w/o any fees. (I signed up for a 2 year contract for $45/mo for 15mb up/down) |

| This is pretty standard in Europe as I recall, and it's been toyed with here for a while. This should come as no shock. Interesting and unsurprising tidbit about the top 25% using 100x more bandwidth than the bottom 25%.

| Comcast has us capped at 250GB. I didn't make too much of a fuss because I have to be downloading like crazy to be at risk of capping out but it is still lame. I can't imagine trying to function under 40GB. I would find a new damn ISP as quickly as possible if comcast did that shit. |

+9 Internets | This sucks for places where there are no other options for ISPs. Im actually getting RR cable soon but Im in California and have tons of other options for broadband if this ever changes.

+9 Internets | Yea as was stated before (as a Canadian) welcome to the club. I think I'm capped at 60gb currently. Shitty part is, I have 2 real options where I live. Rogers (cable) and Bell (horrible DSL). Both of which have the caps, so I'm kinda screwed either way. I think there's some local companies starting up soon offering non capped service but until then I get to bend over and take it. |

| Why pay for cable service when you can watch all the latest TV on the net. Plus see all the movies that would normally be shown on cable from Netflix. My guess this is their way of combating their loss in money from the new trends for watching content on demand. Pretty crappy deal.... I'd sure be pissed, especially if there were no good alternatives to internet in the area. |
