So wait... Did Octupii and Dinosaurs both chill with early humans 7,000 years ago?

I think someone planted that fossil to have me question my faith!

What sad is I see that and think "interesting..." and so much of the population see it and think "religious implications, spark debate!"

I just find it very interesting and I'm a big fan of Octopus's. It said in the article it looks just like modern day octopus's so they haven't evolved much since then it seems. Not that they needed to evolve much if they are the same as they were back then.

And perfectly preserved in its tentacle was a banana, which we all know to be God's perfect fruit!

Wait, what?

It's funny, the way I read the sentence, they're using this as an example of evolution, but the thing has hardly changed in 95 million years.

(I believe in evolution)

Well the 95 million years since they got the right physical setup may have been the development of their modern intelligence.

If physically they were perfect for their niche environment (pretty obvious from the minor changes in 95 million years) there's still room for development of improved intelligence.

I think that's the point. They are trying to study the fact that some species barely changed at all in nearly a hundred million years (notably sharks and octopods), which may be because they were already extremely well adapted to their surroundings. Usually, evolution needs to do something when shit goes wrong (climatic changes, new predators, etc..).

That's the only thing we don't know about it is what their intelligence was back then. They are very very smart creatures now so we can only assume this is the part that evolved, but we'll never know. They might have also developed their camouflage abilities too over time. We will never know.

Enough about religion and evolution. I for one welcome our new super intelligent octopi overlords.
