It's about random musings, thoughts, significant events..whatever.

Now...why anyone wants to read random peoples random musings and thoughts is what I've yet to figure out.

I use it for more than "what everyone is up to". I follow brands I'm interested in for updates. I get the majority of my news on Twitter and far quicker than traditional sources. I've done a ton of networking. I've found potential job applicants. I've been invited to beta test a lot of web products. I've found a lot more interesting things on the web because of Twitter. /shrug - it's alright to be against using Twitter, but you can't deny it's value. It's helped bring a lot of people together and spread around communication faster than any other source on the internet.

Fair points. If it's an easy means of agglomerating information -- a personalized feed of sorts -- that's understandable. I don't understand the incessant, interminable minute-by-minute personal updates of many, but I can appreciate what you just described.

I more or less use it as a 140 character limit message board for me and my friends. Some people think I care what they are doing RIGHT NOW, but that is never the case. Sometimes, I just like to tweet some dumb shit knowing that a bunch of people are going to waste their time reading it.

Like most communication types, it's only as useful as who/what you communicate with. If all you use your cell phone for is to send pictures of your cock to girls and tell Andy about the new kickass rad skateboard you found or whatever those types of douche bags do these days, then you and your cell phone are a waste of mass.

Same can be said of twitter. It's just the next evolution in dumbing down shit so that the thickies out there can pretend like they're part of the human element. News sites were too hard with their wordy words and all and trying to figure out which liberal or conservative bias you had to filter shit through, and facebook you actually have to remember what you were doing today so you can tell all the people that actually don't give a shit when you finally do update.

Twitter basically just removes the conversation part of Instant Messaging. It's perfect for the self-absorbed prats of the world who typically have nothing interesting themselves to say and justify it with bullshit examples of how it's helped keep them in touch with friends! Which is the same goddamn thing people have said of every fucking retaded social networking tool to hit the big time.

Seriously, I don't use facebook/myspace to troll for easy pussy from girls with daddy issues, it's totally to keep in touch with my friends!

But I use it for such awesome things like getting information! I won't specify what type of information because it's usually about the new pink shoes my girlfriend totally found for 30% off OMG!!!!!!

So while it's great that I can get updates from the floor of the senate or straight from the courtroom at the PBay trial, I would have gotten those updates in a few minutes when their blogs were updated.

And you know what? Unless that update is, "Fuck, Zombies." who the fuck cares. I'm usually too busy twittering about the latest grilled cheese sandwhich I ate anyways to notice what other people are doing.
