American's becoming less Christian

Awesome news to start off the week on...

America becoming less Christian, survey finds - CNN.com

Quote:
America is a less Christian nation than it was 20 years ago, and Christianity is not losing out to other religions, but primarily to a rejection of religion altogether, a survey published Monday found.
This makes me happy. There is hope for the human race after all.

I read that earlier too, and found it somewhat interesting. Though I'm an agnostic that toes the athiest line, I'm not sure if I see this article as a positive or not. Intellectually I'd prefer the human race to abandon its prejudices and illusions, but I'm not sure getting there ahead of the rest of the world is going to benefit us. It's the sort of thing that would need to happen globally, or not at all.

I also think it will swing back the other way soon. Evangelicals have given other Christian denominations a bad rep for many years now, and I expect as they lose influence the other brands will begin to make a come back.

I can only hope this trend continues to grow exponentially.

Given that Christians only dropped 1% (77-76%) over what 7 years . . . yeah, its going to take some time.

If Christianity ever does leave the picture another religion will take its place. People love having crazy shit to belive in and rally around.

As an ex-Catholic Agnostic (I was raised Catholic and left after being confirmed, force by parents... etc, etc... HINT: I am glad they forced me, it allows me to see things from other views). I see this as a negative thing.

PS: I will be Atheist the day someone can explain what triggered all of Creation. And.. what triggered that. Heck, if God exists... what created god. I don't look to a higher being; I am just not arrogant enough to say there are no higher beings. Even if they are just aliens who visited our planet thousands of years ago LUMIE LUMIE LUMIE.

The only thing this is going to accomplish is that the radicals on all sides will become more entrenched and violent.

They will see decline in religion as a slip in morality and one step closer to hell.

They will feel cornered (the only sane people in a crazy word) and they will start lashing out on an even bigger scale.

I hope I am wrong

Don't worry the US is not even close to being ahead of the rest of the world.

This is not news, really. Everyone saw this coming... The internet generation is growing and knowledge is power when it comes to defeating religion.

Knowledge induces skepticism.

Still, it is good not news.

Your picture seems wrong/confused. Vietnam is ~85% Buddhist, which I am *GUESSING* falls under Non-religious, yet its marked as Atheist.
