oh, im not saying thats what i think. I am saying that is what science is trying to pigeonhole humans into. the social sciences what to apply scientific thought to human behavior, and like you said, not even close. doesn't keep them from trying. i think it has to do with fields like psychology wanting so desperately to be perceived as an actual science. instead we get bad science.

Psychology, much like physics, biology, nutrition, pharmacy, etc, is just another one of those scientific fields that the press cannot write a decent article on. The purpose of an experiment like this is not to prove that men like girls in bikinis, it's to map which areas of the brain or involved in which activities and why. All sorts of strange correlations in how the brain processes information have come up by looking at what activity centers light up under what conditions and in response to what stimuli.

Psychology is a science. There's way more psychological research based on observable evidence than there is for the various branches of theoretical physics, for instance. Saying psychology isn't valid because there isn't a general theory of intelligence is like saying physics isn't valid because theres giant gaping holes in the Standard Model. Defining things like 'intelligence' and 'choice' are going to be huge undertakings because they involves aspects of nearly every other major scientific field.
