If I find another use for Hulu, I would easily pay the $30 to register it (for use beyond the 14 day trial). Edit: You can also stream youtube, if you care (I do not). The interface and quality of PlayOn is better than the inherent netflix functionality of the Xbox. It also does not require a Gold subscription.

| Laugh. Filled with problems? The internet is working fucking great. I don't know what he is smoking. Is the US mail system "full of problems" because we get junk mail? Are modern automobiles and the highway system "full of problems" because people are still dying in car accidents? Give me a break. Don't blame the internet because your browser or operating system have security holes in them. The internet is a libertarian's wet dream. The side effect of freedom is some abuse of that freedom. (spam, phishing, etc) The only way to eliminate these problems would be to limit your freedoms, such as the freedom to post anonymously. Fuck that. |

Same reason we can't watch American commercials during the Super Bowl, even on Satellite dishes. It's lame, but it's not exclusive to Canada either, the blocking... Now I realize there is workarounds to watching Hulu and such but not everyone that can jump onto Hulu is savvy enough to locate these workaround ( not that it's terribly difficult but you know what I mean)... The States can stop or at least attempt to prevent the rampant sharing but they haven't had much success in stopping other parts of the world from jumping on board. Not really sure they ever will either because it seems like they want to also prosecute infractions via their own system of Law rather than attempting to cooperate with other countries. I'm not sure that's totally true though either since I am in no way a Lawyer and can only go off my skimmings and TLDR's of cease orders sent to sites located out of the states. Pirate Bay has a good page on the letter's they've been sent but who knows how much information they are sharing to... I liked that outside of child porn which is universally recognized as the absolute scum of the earth, the internet has remained basically a playground of total free thought and I wonder once they start policing how much further it goes. Remember the early days when you couldn't even watch uncensored porn trailers? Oh please don't let things go back to then =( | |

+1 Internets | I (re)bought the official plugins for Oblivion recently because my wife wanted to play it. Despite some folks' opinion, I like Bethesda's work, and I actually don't mind paying to support those guys. Problem was, their D2D model is so shitty, I couldn't download from official channels. Here I was having paid for a product I would not get through legal channels because their security measures are so draconian. It has to be downloaded from the computer it's purchased from, and within 24 hours of the purchase. Problem was, it was a brand new box with vista ultimate and my cellular dsl is so old that downloads were fuckered thanks to compatibility. If I could have downloaded to a different PC without too much trouble (moving files, etc, for download permission, ie hacking) or after I got this machine right, then it would have been no problem. I contacted them, and they were no help at all. Their support reiterated what I already knew. So, I grabbed a torrent. Problem solved. In fact, I even told them that I was going to have to "pirate" it because their installer packages are incompatible with vista ultimate anyway. That's right! The actual plugins work fine, but their installers don't. So, there I was, pirating something I paid for legally because the distribution model through legit channels is fucking retarded. Now, in all their studies about piracy, how could they account for people dong this? And, if companies refuse to make their shit accessible, then thank God for these "flaws". This is only one case where shit would be impossible if it weren't for the "bad guys". My attitude: I paid for it. It's legal. Fuck 'em. If they want to kill p2p, then Bethesda and many like them will wind up losing sales and facing litigation due to failure to deliver goods paid for. Really, that's what they want though, isn't it? To have us just hand our money over for free. In a sick way, I hope they do pull off killing piracy, just so I can laugh my ass off at their scratching their heads when it has exactly the opposite effect of what they expect. And then someone will find a new way to do it anyway. Just like always. Hey, even better, maybe soon Microsoft will do as they want and try to rent our own computers to us through new OS's, and everyone will refuse to upgrade. Then, progress will screech to a halt while these eggheads keep shooting themselves in the foot. Whatever happens, it will be funny (but not really).
