| Even Senators I like need to GTFO. Being in the Senate used to mean putting down your plow, or even your whip, and doing your duty for a few years, then coming back. "What's your job?" should not be able to be answered with "I'm a lifetime politician." The only people who want the current, out of control system to stick around are the Old Boys in the Old Boys Club. Let's get some fresh blood in there, both sides, completely new. Let's fix some crap. |

+25 Internets | I hope they push the public option through, I really do. Give me a mismanaged government-run health care option versus a mismanaged for-profit one. Not that anyone cares... Still haven't got my bill yet, but my insurer, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, was nice enough to pass along another statement of what they were charged by the hospital. (Notice the totally awesome way I'm informed about what goods and services were included in the charges.) It's the fifth statement so far -- of how many total, I don't know -- but I'm pretty sure this is for the delivery. I share, not to turn this thread into some emo-fest livejournal entry, but because I think some people on the right side of the fence have a distorted sense of reality. Why the government would allow private businesses to charge people for bringing new taxpayers into the world is beyond me. |

I do however agree that we need a lot of fresh blood in Washington.

| If you go back the 1st Congress, you actually see a ton of examples of people who served as Representatives and Senators who did NOT stay in public office, and many others who served in Congress but then went home to fill other needed positions, all the while farming, banking, etc. They were not defined by their public service, they were not consumed by re-election, and they did not see public service as a vocation unto itself. But the point is moot, and I apologize for even bringing it up, because the fact remains is we need new blood. |

My mother had a spinal tumor removed from her C2/C3 vertebrae (non-cancerous thankfully), and she paid about $400 out of pocket while insurance covered approximately $78,000 of it. (It too was blue cross/blue shield insurance while she was employed by the govt)

+29 Internets | ... lol indeed. do you think that is normal for Americans? I find it hard to believe that she had this surgery and her total out of pocket costs were 400 bucks, but assuming that's true, she either had some AMAZING insurance or there's something else we don't know about ths story. |

| I dunno, she was a government worker and there are lots of those. She was a tax examiner for the IRS. I'm not saying all insurance is good. There is a lot of shitty insurance out there that many just don't have a choice on. Thats why I think that the conservative Democrats need to wake the fuck up, and vote on a plan so we'll all have good insurance. |

| YES PLEASE. Thats the one flaw our founding fathers made. They never actually thought people would idolize politicians so they didn't feel the need for term limits. So unfortunately, the only people that can impose term limits are the politicians themselves, and they will NEVER do that. |
