Why should I have to pay taxes to help protect people like Phoenix from people like me? He's the one benefiting from my tax dollars, not me and that's not fair at all. I'm not sure that I agree with her, that the disorganized nature of the opposition makes it easier to pass a bill. If this was just about health care reform, you'd see significantly less opposition. But like but Maddow and Sanders said in the interview, somehow the argument has been shifted into more. It's about Obama's birth certificate, and Obama's Nazi policy, Medicare, Social Security, etc etc. You're seeing a hell of a lot more people pour out for the "Obama is a half black Kenyan Nazi" protest than you would for the "Health care reform should take the form of vouchers or some shit" protest. Pressure is pressure, regardless of the truth behind it, or the lack of truth. Some Senator who gets 10,000 calls from constituents isn't going to gauge these people for intelligence and ability to discern logic.

When the opposition is simply shouting down the proposition with "OMG DEATH PANELS RAWR"... it's kind of hard to make a real point about what health care reform is or should be. I can guarantee that most people, on both sides of the argument, have no idea what the real specifics of health care reform are.

If mad people like these manage to sabotage health care reform for another presidency or two, one day future generations will read about this era in their history e-books and shake their heads out our baseless, collective hysteria; much like we do today at things like the lynchings and cross-burnings in the late 1800s, the Know Nothing party movement of even earlier, Prohibition, and -- even more recently -- the categorization of Marijuana as a schedule I drug. It's absolutely embarrassing.
