| Because football is directly related to Texas' status in this nation, as well as the NFL which has a significant economic impact. Sport + Border state + Economy = deserves some comment.

+29 Internets | Isn't the deal here that the NCAA, like the NFL and MLB and stuff, enjoys a monopoly that Congress allows provided they make certain concessions? We were talking about this at work and someone brought that up, I wasn't sure though. |

| A Bearded Gnome | You see the BCS brings in a ton of money especially to the two teams that get into the championship game and under the current system the smaller schools have no chance in hell in getting chosen to the championship game and so that money is controlled by the big schools basically. The most recent example is that Utah got shafted out of the championship game this year after going undefeated with a pretty good schedule.

I'm just saying, a private organization that isn't failing or as far as I know (I'm Canadian, I don't really watch anything NCAA related) doesn't have anything to really do with the government should really be a concern at all for him. Not that he doesn't have time or it isn't important, I just can't wrap my head around why it's important. I guess on that note it's importance to the Texas economy makes sense. | |

| A Bearded Gnome | It does have to do with the government because most of these schools get money from them.

| Really? You all are seriously arguing over the president having an opinion about college sports and how this is leading to communism and big government? Can we have an argument about the first amendment and the right TO STATE ONES OPINION instead? Seems much more appropriate. I cant wait til the retardedness that is the republican party just crashes and burns so the REAL republicans can come back. Like no wonder you people are on your way out of Washington. You bitch and moan about Obama having AN OPINION about college football, that he USES A TELEPROMPTER (just like every other politician), that his wife wears sleeveless shirts.......and expect to be taken seriously. Tell you what. You first. If you want obama to be serious business all the time then stop voting complete retards like Michelle Bachman into office who tried to link Swine flu to democrats being in power (which is twice as funny because it was NIXON during the time she talked about). If you want things to be serious all the time then stop being so retarded about shit that no one can take you seriously. The world is fucking tired of it. I thought not so long ago republicans would have a SHOT at holding/gaining in 2010. Now? No fucking way. Not a chance. Last edited by Etoille; 05-01-2009 at 03:13 PM.. |

| Not only will Sonia Sotomayor be a brilliant political pick for Supreme Court but she is an amazing woman. She is Princeton/Yale Law grad (Editor of he Yale Law Review), Latino, a woman, incredibly smart, tremendous experience, self made, appointed by both a Republican (Bush41) and Democrat (Clinton). Wiki NewMajority After investigating this woman and her qualifications, imagine the backlash if the Republicans rally against her which they will certainly do because they will do anything that is anti-Obama. They will do it at their peril. They will use the talking point that she is an "activist", a "socialist", a "Marxist", an "Affirmative Action" Candidate, and of course a "Liberal". Imagine the damage done to the GOP for opposing such a person. This my friends is our next Supreme Court Judge and history in the making. Also this may be what generates critical mass to end the GOP forever. This would make Hispanics permanent Democrats as the Civil Rights Act did for Blacks in the 1960s. Checkmate!
