I don't get it. I mean if you want to hate on Windows fine, but at least pick reasons that are unique to Microsoft.

| If I could build a Mac like I can a PC I would probably be running OS/X. Granted, I know of the OS/x86 project but that always seemed like a hack job. When is Microsoft going to do a brand spanking new OS written from scratch? Certainly there has to come a time when they'll need to start fresh instead of keep updating Windows. How far back does that shit go, anyway? Aren't there bits and pieces (like .DLLs and whatnot) that date back to the 90's? I'm sure that's one of the reasons the OS has become so bloated...not to mention the security flaws is due to the fact that Windows was originally a single-user OS. Once one has become familiar with a Unix OS you can tell how the multi-user aspect of Windows doesn't quite "feel" right. Anyway, Apple did this with OS/X. Microsoft needs to do this too eventually. |

As to rewriting the OS from scratch, the only way this would happen is if an incredible new way of processing was invented and went main stream, and even then most of the code would be borrowed. Truth is, XP -> Vista is the biggest "rewrite" of Microsoft's OS that you'll see for a long time. It's very rarely that software is rewritten from the ground up when a company has a predecessor for the product. Anyway, I got my headphones to work. I had it in the wrong input port. It's the right one for every other OS I've used, but on windows 7 it's not the 'green' port but some other one that works /shrug. I'm sure there's a reason for it. I spent last night getting the speech recognition part training, and it has the same interface/system/girl with the really fuckable lips from Vista, but I don't know if it's any better. I'll put it to use lightning bolting people's asses tonight and see if it's at least better than XP. Start up times seem comprable to XP, maybe more. Honestly though, I think most start up times have to do with registering hardware than loading software. My CPU runs at 4GHZ so start up times are fast on Vista, XP and 7. Again, the only thing I don't like is the lack of configuration options for the look of everything. This is forgivable because it's a beta, but I hope in the release they'll let me turn off the combination of, "Look how futuristic I can look" and "I will not show you more than 5 options at once" they've got. Vista had this by default but I could set it back to "non-noob" mode pretty easily. And Voyce, I'm going to go ahead and throw my hat in with the idea that you're over-reacting. Complaining that Windows comes with notepad and calc.exe but not Microsoft Office is like complaining that the house you bought doesn't come with the previous owner's cars. Just because a company makes two products you want doesn't mean they should throw them both together. Do you really think people want to pay for Office everytime they pay for windows? Also, just steal it.

Also ^agree with above. Who buys office anymore? Or Photoshop? or Vista? Just wait till windows 7 is about to be released and they will do another one of those watch a video and get a free copy of windows 7 things. If that fails then go to your local college and sign up for one class. Go to the bookstore with you new school account and get it for free. Go back to your school and cancel your class. There you got it for free and with a legitimate key. The only thing easier then that is going to your favorite torrent of choice and just downloading it considering the fully ripped and cracked version will be out >6months before actual release.

Truth be told I would love for MS to flop and fold as a company just so I don't have to sit through another fucking powerpoint presentation by people who don't know how to properly create/present one. Pro-tip: If I'm reading your fucking wall of text slides instead of listening to you, you fucking failed. Oh and fuck people who try to use Outlook as a file storage system. Found one guy last year who had sent every file he had ever created to himself in an email then bitched when his archive folder corrupted and lost most of his shit. I didn't even know a .pst file could reach 3gb. Last edited by Zehn - Vhex; 01-06-2009 at 08:36 AM..

+75 Internets | I respectfully disagree with you two. Having a .ppt with the transcript of the speech is more useful than having a .ppt with highlights. That way I don't have to take notes. When I do .ppts I do the latter though, if that makes you two happy. And if MS goes down I feel you will be very unhappy because it won't stop bad presentation. |

PPT slides should always be short and only highlight the memorable quick points/main points.

+166 Internets | My powerpoints usually consist of the first slide with my name on it, the second slide being a nonsensical picture I pull from FSR that has nothing to do with my presentation, then the third slide being, "Any questions?" They almost always ask what the point of the picture was, which allows me to conjure up some bullshit story tying everything together and 'breaks' the ice and will get them talking. Then we have punch and pie and go hiking together as a TEAM BUILDING EXPERIENCE. |
