Well, 80k puts an individual already in the 25% bracket very close to the 28% bracket. But the main spike (15 -->25%) occurred when he crossed the ~$16/hour mark. If he's married, his only concern is that his spouse not make over $55k a year.

At any rate, the same person has never done the actual math. His hate for taxes is something ideological and reflexsive.

Hey now, I said it's selfish and understandable . But the problem is that a lot of people get outraged over taxes that don't even affect them. No one takes time to do the math.

As a random example, you'll find small businessmen hating on Obama for projected tax increases that will affect companies making over $100,000 annually. Meanwhile, their low-growth import-ebay businesses are making them $45,000 per year.

That scenario is common, and it supports Heylel's idea that a lot of people harbor delusions of becoming millionaires. And they're deficient at simple math.
