Heh, I wonder how far the song would have to actually go for you guys to admit that it is racist, or that maybe it is inappropriate for the potential head of a major political organization (one that SHOULD be hoping to make significant inroads with minorities if they want to keep winning elections) to send out a racist song as his Christmas card. If it was a song about Bush you would see so many Conservative panties in a wad, hypocrasy doesn't really surprise me much anymore but god damn dude.

I really think you're going to be out of media matters talking points in a year or so.
We are not talking about Rush Limbaugh. We are talking about the racist slant of someone who is potentially the Leader of a major US political party. This incident points directly to the fact that the Republican party is the party of racists, xenophobes, and homophobes. There is no longer any doubt to that fact. It is a fact, just like the sky is blue.

The Republican party is the strictly a party of the Southern United States and caters to those types of people only. They are no longer a mainsteam political party. It will become even more clear to the world by 2012 and by 2016 they will be a very fringe, militant party of hatred. Even if they elect a token like Micheal Steele to be the RNC Chairman the facts will remain the facts. They are past the point of no return.

The Tennessee Republican party came out of the closet during the past election and was proud to be extreme racists. The rest of the party will do so in the next few years.

Republican racism is nothing new however they are more open about it now. Here is an article from 2002. Republicans should not run away from it but embrace it. If that is how you are and what you believe make it known to the world. After the 2008 Republican convention no one had any doubts what they stand for...and against.

Republican Racism

Quote:
Republican leaders remain in a massive state of denial about the party's four-decade-long addiction to race-baiting. They won't make any headway with blacks by bashing Lott if they persist in giving Ronald Reagan a pass for his racial policies.

The same could be said, of course, about such Republican heroes as, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon or George Bush the elder, all of whom used coded racial messages to lure disaffected blue collar and Southern white voters away from the Democrats. Yet it's with Reagan, who set a standard for exploiting white anger and resentment rarely seen since George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door, that the Republican's selective memory about its race-baiting habit really stands out.
The future of the Republican party is written in stone. Also, the world now knows why the GOP is opposed to Barack Obama; because he is Black. Again, Tennessee takes the lead in driving the GOP to extinction.

I don't think any doubt is left however the next few years will see the Republicans sink even further in the depths of racism and hatred. The world will be disgusted by what they will see at the RNC convention in 2012.

The Republicans will ride that Southern train all the way into the gutter they are now in.

Also at GOP chair 'appalled' by 'Magic Negro' CD - Mike Allen - Politico.com

The RNC is trying to "distance" themselves but it is too little too late.

If this song thing cast the shadow of racism on the guy, it also exposes a critical lack of political acumen on his part... something republican leaders are in dire need of.

Watch as this former VA Republican Party chairman takes up for the song and gets angry with a news anchor about it. She suggests that it is ok but he should not have let anyone find out about it.

Ditto Rush!

Once again, lack of historical perspective makes you spew the stupid. The pendulum swings, as it always does in our two party system, and it will swing back, and back again, and back again, as long as we retain our first-past-the-post system, with the electoral college and single-member legislative races. People have declared each party dead at various points in the past. People will declare each party dead at various points in the future. During these periods, thick-skulled loudmouths at the fringe of the prevalent party will engage in smug asshattery about how the other party is done. Congratulations on playing your role in this iteration of the great story that is American democracy.

If IRB is a mainstream democrat then I'm very, very happy to still be a member of the 'dead' party

For anyone who doesn't think that song is even slightly racist find a black guy and call him a magic negro and watch what happens.

True, normally there is a swing from party to party. However, I believe the Republican party is a permanent minority party for the following reasons.
  • The Republican party is a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant-ONLY party. The Demographics of the US are changing and even many WASPs do not want to be a part of a WASP-only party.
  • Republican talk radio is doing more damage to the Republican brand than we can even predict or imagine. Rush Limbaugh, a charlatan, is the Leader of the party. Rush Limbaugh does not give a shit about the Republican party. He only cares about how much money he makes. Therefore, the Republicans have a false Leader. Talk radio is the ultimate cancer that will create a permanent minority party.
  • George Bush is the worse president in the history of the presidency. The second worse president was Herbert Hoover. Both were Republicans who brought us an economic Depression. People put ideology aside when they don't have jobs. "The Economy Stupid" is the overwhelming issue that elects politicians. The Republicans policy of "borrow and spend" does not work.
  • The Republican party is beholden to the extreme religious Right. Although this is a huge group of people, the young Evangelicals are not as loyal to the Republican party as their parents. Abortion is not their only voting issue. Young Evangelicals are much more concerned with a wide variety of issues.
  • Old people are Republican. They will die. The Republican brand is like Cadillac's customer base. Old people buy them but then they die. Their kids buy Toyota and Lexus.
  • The Southern Strategy of using racial politics is the only way the Republican party has been able to be a major player. Using this strategy will be difficult with Obama as President and the public now knows that they use this strategy. This "Magic Negro" incident reinforces that narrative. Republicans are racists. They have been able to hide it a bit in the past but now it is front and center. As a result of using the Southern Strategy now their only strongholds are the racist Southern states and the Fly Overs. The Southern States and Fly Overs contribute nothing to the country economically or intellectually. Plus, they do not have many electoral votes. The rest of the country supports those ignorant hicks in the South and the Fly Overs.
The Republican party has several leaders that may be able to bring them from the brink of extinction but they will have to work against the issues I listed above. Tim Pawlenty, Colin Powell, Newt Gingrich, Charlie Crist, or Bobby Jindal are potential Leaders that could help them but I don't think they will get enough traction. Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and Ann Coulter have the loudest voices that will drown them out.

'Magic Negro' flap might help Saltsman

Quote:
The controversy surrounding a comedy CD distributed by Republican National Committee chair candidate Chip Saltsman has not torpedoed his bid and might have inadvertently helped it.
If Saltsman becomes the RNC Chairman, the verdict on the Republican party is signed, sealed, and delivered. I so hope he becomes Chairman. Once that happens, call me the Nostradamus of the FoH board. There will be no way for them to recover from that.

And if you are black and don't think its racist?

Anyway, in a way IRB is right. While we do have demographic shifts from left to right the parties do change, I mean we're not voting for Federalist and Whigs anymore even though some of the ideology of these parties still exist.
