Have you read the whole bill, and not the "salient points" ?

The funny thing is, when I asked if someone had read the whole Democratic bill, someone said "1990 fucking pages are you KIDDING ME?!" but now, with a 200 page alternative, someone can go "Yep, and it sucks."

Did YOU read all 1990 pages of the Democratic bill, and not just the "salient points?"

My argument would be that if it takes almost 2,000 pages to document this proposed legislation then probably it should be broken into more manageable parts. For instance :

A bill for reform and reduction of medical costs.
A bill for a mandate for employer provided coverage
A bill establishing a public insurance plan option
etc...

If it's a good law all parts should be able to stand on their own. Producing something this large and complicated smacks of trying to "sneak things through". At this point Pelosi has now gone back on her commitment to post the full bill for 72 hours before a vote because they are still cramming stuff into it. Not a single legislator will have read the whole bill, let along understand it, before voting. Which means they aren't doing their jobs right.

Explain.

What if certain parts of "reform and reduction of medical costs" rely on provisions contained in the sections detailing "a mandate for employer provided coverage" which in turn has benefits pertaining to personal "public insurance plan option"(s)?

What then? What if one gets passed and another doesn't?

I somewhat agree with you on a principle standpoint but I also can't allow you to say things like "smacks of trying to "sneak things through" when I could use the argument that splitting it up smacks of "gutting the workable parts into useless legislation".

If you want to get rid of that "smacks" feeling your best bet is to read and research the bill just to make sure nothing is sneaking through.

The 2000 page bill isn't like a Wheel of Time book that could take months to get through. Each page of the bill is like 25 lines long at 18pt font. It's rediculous. Some lines only have 4-5 words on them.

You know that right? That it's not just a credit for people who already own a house???
You understand that if you buy one house and sell another you haven't taken a house off the market, right?

My favorite Republican commentator, Glenn Beck, is out sick. I really miss him. Stewart gives us something to help get our Beck on while he is out.
