It's awesome what you can do when you put your mind to it. Or you can admit that right-wing demagoguery has resulted in more than one incident where people have been shot and murdered. And before you can say, "but it happens on both sides. Remember that pro-lifer who was murdered a couple weeks back?", let me just say that his murder was terrible, and perhaps it was motivated out of some misguided sense of civic duty. But until you can find a left-wing extremist television channel that broadcasts at least three hours of culture warrior shit a night (think communist versions of Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity), you'll have a hard time convincing anyone that the poor murdered pro-lifer wasn't just an isolated incident. I hope to God that we don't end up with more Ruby Ridges and Mount Carmels before Obama is out of office. But for some strange reason, I don't have a lot of faith that we won't. | |

| The issue of people being more divided than ever is only going to grow. I had a discussion with a friend about this topic recently. Basically, throughout American history, we've seen a somewhat even split between those who are almost always either Dem, Rep, or independent - with independents making up the swing votes. However, since the proliferation of mass media, people have become more polarized than ever. Yes, most Americans still label themselves as independents. Then again, most Americans believe they are strictly middle-class when they may be on the richer or poorer end, but everyone likes to believe they're just regular. That's where the mass media comes in - now, and especially since the advent of the internet, it's become increasingly easier to spread your views, especially fringe views, with minimal public ridicule. As said earlier, back in the day, you got in front of crowds to tell people your views. You would be challenged directly on your views, and you'd have to answer for them. Come off too ridiculous to the crowd? Well, kiss your hopes goodbye. Now this is where the entire two party system starts to break down - when the vast majority of people are now 'almost always' going to side with one side (I'd wager that fewer than 10% of the voting population actually swings one way or another, the vast majority who vote are already set in their thoughts), shit gets ever more vile and extreme in what does (or doesnt) get done. So I hope one day someone comes out with a viable third party alternative to those that are actually fed up with the two sides but I won't hold my breath on that one. We're more likely to keep yelling |

+17 Internets | The problem is no single media outlet can appeal to the Moderate middle. The fact that they are moderates means the views vary person to person. There is no single standard for a Moderates beliefs. It's much easier to make a media channel focusing towards either the far right or the far left. the extremists have somewhat of a consensus, its much easier for a station to target their viewpoints.

+2 Internets | Jesus christ, is there even a sign in that pic that is spelled correctly? I hate to play the grammar card but that collection of signs looks like it was taken from a group of brainwashed kindergarteners doing a class project or something. /picard |

You forgot another crucial part or two. The amount of money needed to successfully run a campaign, and *drum rolls* the actual ability to be on ballots. We have seen Third parties on ballots and whatnot before, but that is because one side wants them there. They have the shittiest rules set in place to cock-block any legitimate shot at having a GOOD third party come in that would actually make a difference. The Libertarian party is just now starting to get enough votes to get on bigger ballots and that took them how long?

| This is a result of the Republican Tea Party Movement and Fox News. Watch as this story blows up and points the finger directly at Glenn Beck. Hanged Census worker had 'fed' on chest Quote:

| On Stormfront they like that Beck is "waking up White People" but some are upset that he takes up for the Jews. Overall they say he is good for the "movement" but he needs to back off of his Jew support. |

| The killing of a census worker is so stupid it makes me sick. Census workers are mostly older civic minded people who want to help the community by accurately assessing them and thus getting them the appropriate funding. They aren't some big government employees they are just people who want to do their part. Shows how ignorant people can be to kill one of them with an anti-government theme. Makes me want to scream that "THE CENSUS IN THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION YOU DIPSHITS" to them ![]() |
