| Read my explanation that I added in the edit. By the way, that line was intended to show how annoying it is to judge people by where they live. People that don't live in the north east are fucking sick of the elitist bullshit spewed from there... |

| the problem with using the SAT is that kids from the midwest who are going to be taking that test are likely to be at the high end of the scale since the majority just take the ACT. The coasts, which mainly focus on the SAT, are going to have a broader spectrum of students taking that test in their states. |

| Heh, it might be a St.Louis thing, we have a huge chip on our shoulder here about the way nothing that happens in a state not on a coast matters to the media etc. People think Missouri is 100% rednecks who fuck their sisters and such when a huge percentage live in suburbs not unlike what you would find in CA or the north east. Not sure why I care at all as its isn't logical but emotion does play a big part for some reason. It must be this whole being human thing ![]() Last edited by CnCGOD; 09-02-2009 at 11:44 AM.. |

I can't speak for other states but in Connecticut Bridgeport, Hartford, and New haven are extremely poor cities. This state has one of the worst divides between the "haves" and the "have nots" in the country. Quote:

| IMO SAT scores are a bad way to measure intelligence, education or knowledge for many reasons. I saw a CNN report this week that said about a third of schools are not even requiring them anymore because they have little to do with a student's potential performance in college and that more colleges are going to drop them. The only reason they haven't already is that the college boards are making billions a year and have a lot of power, and they aren't going to give up easily. |

+58 Internets | Its also really not fair to judge DC as a state. People in the Northeast tend to be better educated. That's just a fact. That doesn't mean that many smart people don't live in Missouri or wherever, or that stupid people don't live in the north east. I can tell you when for a fact when a student comes to a North East school from a deep southern state, they are almost always 2 or 3 grades behind. Its actually something deeper than an over abundance of Fried Chicken and Grits contributing though.. For whatever reason, globally people from colder climates massively out perform people from warmer climates. ![]()

+61 Internets | Deseret News | Pull ads for Beck Read the comments made in response to that letter to the editor and then tell me if you think the people of Utah are intelligent. Hell read the comments made in response to any of the letters on that site. I understand that letters to the editor are generally pretty ridiculous, but holy shit. The fact is, the people who believe this ridiculous shit and who make all these zany claims and compare Obama to Hitler aren't just some fringe wing. The average Republican actually believes a lot of this stuff, and it's absolutely mind boggling(bottling?!). I'm mired in it here, and every day I lose a little more faith in humanity. There's no solution to this kind of stupid. It leaves me at a loss for words. A huge portion of the country is just broken in the head and cannot ever be fixed. They're honestly not even really people at this point and it's really pretty depressing.

+61 Internets | You should totally put me in my place by linking a bunch of footage of non-insane Republicans. It's kinda weird, it seems whenever a Republican is filmed on camera they magically become part of the fringe. Keep referring to this mysterious base that isn't comprised entirely of whack-fucks as though they actually exist though. We have more footage of fucking bigfoot then we do of rational, reasonable, intelligent Republicans. I'm sure there are intelligent Republicans out there because I can personally imagine a reasonable argument from that side of the isle on almost every issue. I'd just really like to, you know, actually meet someone making these arguments. These are arguments that I would probably still disagree with, but at least they wouldn't make me think the person producing them was mentally handicapped. The point is, the crazies are actually the Republican base. They're not rare. They're not fringe. The average Republican is a fucking idiot who deserves the same amount of respect you would give a stray dog. I could go outside right now, walk 50 feet in any direction, and I guarantee you I would find at least one person who agrees with the people in that video clip.

Perfectly willing to go with the numbers you found as being more representative of current IQs. Quote:
You're the perfect example of what I was saying. You're right because you think you're right, conflicting information be damned. Even if you go by Screemfeeder's data (which seems like a better idea ), it indicates Utah and Missouri have reasonably high average IQ scores. Quote:

+65 Internets | Perhaps that's because of underlying economic and development issues that have very little to do with climate or geographic location? Every "colder climate" country is a highly developed advanced economy (Russia somewhat included), and has been for at least half a century or more. |
