+29 Internets | Dumb car question No, it's pretty dumb. So my wife got really sick with her pregnancy and quit her job and I basically have been doing all the driving. Well neither of us noticed until recently but her car sat there so long that the tires went flat. No problem, I went out and bought a pump and aired them up. Backing out of the driveway, one of them popped or something. Made this sound and the sidewall has a gash in it. However, none of the tires are flat, all are reading 30ish PSI. And when driving on it, it makes a wobbling sound like the tires are flat. I didn't really drive on it, we thoguht the pop sound originally was the tires breaking free fromt he mud/etc that was around them, we drove less than half a block. I know her tires need to be replaced, what I am wondering about is what that sound could be. The tires aren't flat, what's the wobbling sound? Horribly unbalanced tires? |

+4 Internets | How long did it sit? They can warp flat spots onto them if they sit all of the car weight on them unmoved for a good length of time.

+4 Internets | 3 months really isnt too bad, but if they are old and were obviously under pressure it can also cause the tire to separate (steel belt inside tire) which is extremely dangerous at high speed. Try and get it checked out somewhere close by so youre not driving on them much.

| You flat-spotted the tires, most likely the rims bent the steel belting. Basically your tires are out of balance for good. Drive on them long enough and they will eventually blow completely. I'd replace them.

+4 Internets | I just would keep your speed way way down. If the steel beltings break off, its pretty much a blowout. (Same thing the defective Firestone tires were doing)

| If you have triple AAA just drive a block from your house and say you broke down. If you have premium or above they will tow it for free to any maintenance shop you want. |

+29 Internets | I drove it up there yesterday and it drove fine, guess it was dumb to be worried about it, btu that big gash in the sidewall made me nervous. So yeah, 300 for tires, 320 for brakes and apparently the boot is cracked but I decided that can wait. I got raped. But the wobbling sound was definitely the tires. Now they are all ultrasensitive, like I can feel every single bump on the road. I couldn't find any real info on a problem like that on the internets so I am assuming that it just feels like that because of the new tires. |
