Lets just not automaticly assume everyone who votes against gays is doing so for religious reasons. I know more then a few people personally that hate gay people every bit as much as they hate church. I am sure there are plenty of religious people who voted against them because they are religious but there is a very large group of people who simply find same sex couples creepy as fuck and for no other reason then they are the same sex. God has nothing to do with it.

People can't call those that voted yes ignorant and close minded and turn around and be hypocrits and make ignorant and close minded sweeping generalizations(sp) about the voters. Then again this is the internet

Yes, and yes.

Depending on the state, it is easier or harder to get a sex change. In CA, it requires 1 surgery, 1+ year on hormone therapy, and written approval from a psychologist.

When someone gets a legal gender change, they get all the rights and privileges of that gender.

As far as money goes, yea it was mostly for religious reasons. I'm guessing religious reasons ranked among the top for voters of prop 8, too.

Donor Groups Identified, Largest is Individual Mormons — Mormons for Proposition 8

- Individual Donors, Mormon - 40.40% ($7,615,842.43)
- Individual Donors, Other* - 29.94% ($5,643,497.71)
- Non-Mormon Organizations - 29.66% ($5,592,015.24)
*Includes “probable” Mormons not yet confirmed.

Mormons alone were apparently responsible for 40% of donations (though I just pulled the first google result, could be BS).

--

Now that doesn't mean every supporter was based in religion, but generally speaking it's true.

This is further proof that black voters (overwhelmingly largely) voted for Obama because he was black, and NOT because he was a democrat. Of course, when I suggested that like 2 months ago, I was shot down, called a racist, bigot, etc etc whatever other name in the book. This pretty much proves it.

Lots of people tend to forget that black people LOVES them some Jesus.

Black people vote for Democrat, shocking expose at 11.

Seriously, Democratic candidates have enjoyed consistently high support from the black vote (between 85-90%) for the passed 20 years.

I'm an atheist and I don't believe gays should be able to *marry*. As been said before, marriage is the tradition of the union of a man and woman. If gays want to shack up and share bank accounts then get a civil union. I mean it's like women getting all bent out of shape because they aren't allowed to join the Boy Scouts.

Why do you liberals want to buck traditions all the time? They should be held and cherished. Again, I'm an atheist but I have NO issue with The Pledge of Allegiance, "In God We Trust", or saying "Merry Christmas."

You're right. This country has a long and cherished history of oppressing minorities and denying them equal protection under the law. Such wonderful traditions we should be proud of.

I have no issue with those things either. None of them are an example of glaring inequality among American citizens. The whole point of setting up the government the way it is was to keep our rights from being at the whims of the majority. Rights are rights. Equality is equality. Anything less is not American.

Because appeal to tradition is a logical fallacy, and it's important to note that a minority is being singled out and victimized as a result of it.

Yeah, VICTIMIZED.

Whatever. 50+% of all marriages end in divorce. They're doing them a fucking favor if you ask me.

Yes, who would want tax breaks, equal coverage from insurance, and workplace benefits? Not to mention the many multiple government programs that benefit married couples and divorced people.

Singling out a minority and refusing to grant them equal access to and protection under the law without any sort of coherent argument sounds like victimization to me, yeah.

Yeah, not being able to visit your loved one in a hospital because you're not related is SURE a favor.

Quit trolling like Suineg.

WELL FUCK I GUESS YOU ARE 100% right!!!

Domestic partnership in California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

...

as far as what is not covered in there...yeah Federal does not recognize same sex marriages but the state sees domestic partnerships as equal to marriage.

Also, work place benefits are by the COMPANY choice...no company is forced to give your entire family health benefits or any benefits for that matter.

Fucking A, this is basic shit you all are getting wrong.

Go read up on the current state of domestic partnerships in california, it encompases nearly all of those cons you just mentioned...including seeing the family in the hospital.
