| Obama. Don't necessarily like all his views but I'm very interested in pissing rednecks off. Nothing makes me happier than knowing the hicks where I came from having a black president. Now him winning is another story. My pessimistic side is looking at the CNN electoral map and saying he could very well lose. A lot of states that were leaning obama or for obama are now a level down. |

| Heard this in the morning on my way to work. Reported on CBS News radio station in Chicago. SOME ODDS ON WHETHER YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT. Do you know what the odds are against your vote tomorrow making the difference as to who becomes President? The Constitution sets up a certain balance of powers between executive, legislative and judicial branches of government ... between the Federal Government and the states ... and between the government and us, the people. But there's only one President, with certain decisions and powers reserved for that office. That's why Harry Truman kept that sign on his desk: "The buck stops here." The "people" --- of whom, by whom and for whom the government exists --- are many. There are millions of us. We can pass the buck by not voting. It is a right, a privilege, and a duty to vote --- but there's no law saying we have to. And some won't --- either out of indifference or laziness, or because they think their vote won't really make a difference, anyway. And a new statistical study by three prominent statisticians says the chances of your vote tipping the balance for one candidate or another is like buying a Powerball ticket. Effectively, your chances of winning the Powerball lottery are about the same whether you buy a ticket or not. And your chances of tipping the election one way or the other are about the same whether you vote or not. It might, but that's unlikely in the extreme. The lead author of the statistical study on the odds against your presidential vote making a difference is Andrew Gelman, a professor of statistics and political science at Columbia University. The others are Aaron Edlin of the University of California at Berkeley and the third is baseball statistician Nate Silver. In New York, where Gelman lives, the odds against one vote making a difference are 1.9 billion to one. He intends to vote, anyway. In New Mexico, the odds are only 6.1 million to one --- in Virginia, 7.9 million to one. But in 34 states, the odds against one vote making the difference are greater than 100 million to one. You should still vote, though, because if you don't ... the odds against you making the difference are infinite. The Osgood File. Transcripts, podcasts and Mp3s of these programs can be found at theosgoodfile.com. This is Charles Osgood on the CBS Radio Network. |

| I am not insulting you or anyone else in anyway. But, let's look at this. She's governor of her state, and is the VP candidate, and may possibly be the vice president / president of the United States. She's accomplished a lot, but as you say she's retarded. If she's done all that and she's still retarded, what have you done, and where does that put you on the IQ spectrum?

edit- Also: If by "accomplish a lot" you mean prove to the nation that abstinence-only education does not work, then I agree with you. Last edited by Sabolin; 11-03-2008 at 11:18 AM..

| Arguementative | Voting Brian Moore. As for some final comments regarding this election: The Democrats have done the unthinkable, they turned Obama who could have been torn a new one into the winner of this. The Republicans lost this one, horribly. Every mistake that could have been made, has been made. Part of me likes to think Obama is someone who really wants to fix America. But I know better, he is a cookie-cut, just like McCain. If anything, the only thing this election is bringing to my attention is just how undemocratic this nation really is. |

People like you always bring shit up like 'waahhhh I'm too small to matter' and then wonder why so many politicians aren't responsible to their own electorate. Way to be a citizen buddy.
