| Temporary jobs / work I thought there had been a similar thread to this but I'm coming up empty on the search. Anyway, I'm graduating in December with an industrial engineering degree. I've accepted a post-graduate job but it doesn't start until mid April; so I'm going to have some down time. I'm trying to be forward thinking towards finding a temporary job during that few months. Any ideas? I haven't given it much thought yet but I considered a gym because I already lift weights frequently. Sounds a bit lame but I don't have a lot of hobbies that would align with working opportunities. BTW, I'm going to be way too broke to travel for a few months. People seem to be big proponents of traveling away moderate amounts of time. Thanks for any input. |

| I had the same deal. After undergrad, I got a good job offer, but they wanted me to wait several months. I ended up waiting tables until I got hired. I gave the restaurant some b.s. story about how I was getting my graduate degree, but I need the money from waiting tables while I was in grad school. I quit a few months later to take the job. It is dishonest, but it would have been more dishonest to not pay my bills.

| Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Mr. Burton!!!! You could always get a job as a trucker and drive the Pork Chop Express. Hey there! I've got great news for you! In the current economy, you too can take what you think is a good job that might lead to a career opportunity, only to find out the day you start that in fact you will be lucky to have it past Christmas! That's right, act now and you too can get suckered into a temp contract through lies and deception... Anyhow, since you already have a real job lined up, for the next few months I would just take anything you can get that wouldn't have you wanting to kill yourself when you get home. Don't feel bad about lying your ass off to get it, because in our times, companies don't hesitate to lie to you. Spoiler Alert, click show to read: edit2: not that I give a rat's ass about -internets, I think they are funny, but I am taking the suggestion of spoilering the above to save your eyeballs the effort of having to ignore the text. However, I am leaving the initial edit below because I find it hilarious that some of you couldn't figure out what I was responding too... edit: damn some of you people are fucking tools, I'm about as far from emo as you can get... do you see me crying in my parents basement as I listen to the backstreet boys and try to cut myself because I can't get my hair gel to hold my mop on in the right position? I for one think the universe is pretty cool overall, but am disgusted with the 'employees as expendable assets' mindset that corporations have taken up. Anyhow, thanks for the good laugh, needed it after a long day at work. Wow, you guys are great, yeah I'm the one looking for temp work (not,) so you suggest sucking dick at Olive Garden.. hmm, did you miss the part that I have a job that pays a shit ton, even if I don't know how long it will last? Anyhow I appreciate your feeble attempts at humor. Last edited by Eduardo; 10-14-2008 at 04:33 PM.. |

| Lots of jobs out there, some places in my town hire/train you to draw blood for 12 and hour. If you like retail, Sears is your place. Relaxed scheudles and when I was working there for two years I made close to 40 grand full part time. Meaning I got full time hours without benefits. Just made sure you work in a commission department. You make excellent money the day after thanksgiving, I walked out a 14 hour shift from sears during black friday with 1400+ in commissions and quit so my check wouldn't be altered with returned product. Donate seamen if you have a degree, fairly tall with a decent jaw line they pay great money. 1K plus depending. A store I really want to make will be called "2 shots in 1" Will be a blood bank / sperm bank connected to each other.

| Just use spoiler tags next time Eduardo, that should avoid you any precious internet loss. I can't add anything to the discussion except that we did have a job thread not too long ago, and the most interesting part of it was that multiple people commented on the decent-to-good money you can make delivering pizzas. I had always assumed pizza delivery was on par with any other minimum wage job, but that thread said otherwise. Who knew? |

+14 Internets | Find a local temp agency, punch a clock doing some bullshit for 15 an hour and you'll be fine. It's not fun work, but you never take shit home with you, you work regular hours, and with a degree you'll get paid enough to live fine. |
