Anyone ever directly asked an ISP if they cared about piracy and would or would not give the feds /courts your info?

The only times I've seen people get nailed is when someone had to go to the ISP and ask for the street address of some IP, if this wasn't an option for a certain IP I'd go with that service even if I had to pay additional money for it.

This isn't the type of board where the hardcore "I'm not paying for anything" crowd hangs out. I suspect the typical "piracy" that users around here commit is for anime, TV shows, music/videos they already own, or avoiding DRM.

Such civil disobdience merely highlights the growing problem in industry that hasn't changed for 30 years, and lobbied against innovations all the way back to the VCR lawsuit. A few suggestions on that note:
1) Eliminate DRM
2) Develop DVR -> PC interfaces
3) Offer subscription packages for foreign channels (i.e. japan animation networks)
4) Globalize Releases
5) Back catalog convenience for music/videos. (No one likes rebuying the same content in different formats)

Optonline was the previous 'best' ISP in the US. Think it was the highest ranked ISP on dslreports for years. I had that for a really long time (I'm in the NY area as well) but jumped to FIOS when that was available.

Opt use to be so anal with up caps. They wouldn't tell you when you were capped and what the cap was. As for DL, they didn't give a shit about it. It was just UL. I had to call a few times over my years as a customer about them lifting my UL cap whenever we tripped whatever secret formula they had for it kicking in. It might be different now cause I'm sure FIOS is eating into their market % here.

On the note of internet piracy and companies not willing to change, Hulu - Watch your favorites. Anytime. For free. is a new breed of change in corporation thinking and comes from NBC Universal and News Corp (Two of the biggest media corporations).

For those that don't know, on that website you can go watch your favorite television shows for free, it's fast, easy and has high definition, so give it a try! /shill

Anyway, I'm wondering if when that website gets more traffic if they will start getting more ads like on TV commercials. With hulu you get one commercial on the breaks, where on TV you get like 8.

Bastards lock us Canucks out because of distribution deals, though. Sucks ass. Canadian TV websites are brutal compared to what most of the big US ones have.

I really like Hulu as well. I just wish it had more episodes. I started watching Chuck last month, and they only had the last two or three episodes of season one. :P

Comcast has something similar, Fancast, but Hulu is much better.

I've been using Hulu for a bit now as well. I love having full episodes up and legit. The only minor complaint I have with them but I guess it's needed is the 30 sec commercial at the beginning. I understand why. The commercials in the actual clip (during the commercial breaks) are fine. Just that 1st one. I would probably sample more unknown shows otherwise. Other then that tiny annoyance, it's probably the best streaming service available yet.

Really? 30 seconds is too much for you, when it's nearly 20x that when watching live television? Wow.

wow, that Hulu site has The Blob remake. One of the few movies around that still makes me cringe. Good times.
