+75 Internets | Train Collision being attributed to Texting Texting banned on California trains after deadly crash - CNN.com So they're blaming the cell phone and text messaging for the accident. for trains colliding. Things I don't understand How 1 person can be incharge of a train and can make decisions that could cause it to crash? Shouldn't there be computerized fail safes? some sort of warning? Is this entirely based on whether or not 1 person notices a stop signal and decides to plow through it? Why texting is being cited as the problem and not the employees incompetence. Article says that the guy took a 2 hour nap during his lunch break, if that's true, who else is watching the train? I think this is just a plain case of the guy was an idiot. How engrossed are you with text messages that you fail to notice shit? and you should know your route well enough so you don't decide to start texting when you're coming to a critical intersection. |

Supposedly alerts were triggered at the safety monitoring agency that monitors railway traffic signals in California, but they were either too slow or too inept to text the retarded engineer in time. Or they were hunting & pecking, that slows down text messages.

| The guy operating the freight train is in my bowling league and he said that once he saw what was going to happen he had enough time to hit the emergency breaks and run for the back of the train. So clearly the engineer of the Metrolink should of had enough time to react which makes me believe he wasn't paying attention or didn't give a fuck. |

You can nap in the office during a lunch break. You can't nap if you're supposed to be watching a mother fucking train. Seems like bad practices all around.

| Also, from what I recall hearing the other day, the train company was extremely quick to blame to blame the driver, and in response the governing body said it was far too early to make any determination on the cause. Maybe more information is out now, but it still makes me personally wonder if the company is trying to hide something. /shrug |
