Palin's Yahoo E-mail Hacked... By 4chan?

Was browsing the internet today, stopped by /b/ and noticed no small amount of bullshit on Sarah Palin popping up in several of the threads, found out about this:

Michelle Malkin » The story behind the Palin e-mail hacking

Apparently, someone hacked Sarah Palin's yahoo e-mail account and posted the account name and password on 4chan. According to this blog story (sorry, no truly reputable sources on it yet, although it was on fox news earlier), someone on 4chan logged into the e-mail account and changed the password and sent an e-mail to a friend of Palin in order to warn her the e-mail address was compromised. Unfortunately, the poster also took a screencap of this and posted it in /b/, but failed to blank the password out, and the swarm of login attempts that followed led Yahoo to freeze the account... But the information from the account was archived and supposedly is loose on the web. Something was posted to wikileaks but the site is down now...

All I've got to say is, if true, wow. Good show 4chan. O'Reilly is gonna love this one.

It wasn't hacked, the password reset option was an obvious fucking question, "what is your zipcode", or "where did you meet your spouse." Was one of the two.

Rumor mill suggests that the Republicans removed all business emails, changed the safety questions to something completely simplistic, and then purposely leaked the email name. All they got were the personal emails that belonged on yahoo, and gave them an excuse when the accounts mysteriously disappeared and the real government evidence vanished with it.

Seems like they might as well have been the one to leak the password itself to 4chan. It's /b/, so what's to seperate a poser from the herd? It's fucking 4chan, so of course they'll relish the attack regardless. No one would suspect they're innocent of the attack.

Still, I don't think they were that intelligent. It's more plausible to me it truly was an independent act, and that there was no republican plot involved. Whether or not she had been scrubbing the account for sensitive information could be an unrelated safety measure in case the courts forced her to release those e-mails to the troopergate investigation.

After 8 years, it's going to be refreshing to see Republicans saying that it's not ok for people to spy on other people's private communications anymore.

It's pretty true...a bunch of those clowns have the technical know how to dodge the bullet. Couple that with the fact that 4chan is actively deleting anything about Sarah Palin and there probably won't be much of a trace left.

I can't get to the video, but are they debating whether it is legal to access someone else's e-mail? How would that be legal?

The alleged hack was pulled off by "loosely affiliated" members of an anti-Scientology group
Is 4chan being described as an anti-scientology group now, instead of an elite group of hackers on steroids?

A group that calls itself Anonymous enacted a DDOS attack against the scientology website and organized demonstrations in meatspace a little while back. /b/ is an forum wherein people post anonymously. The media believes them to be the same entity. I have no idea who Anonymous are, but I imagine some of them frequent /b/.
