Pentagon researcher worries wow could double as terrorist training ground/communications hub

Pentagon Researcher Conjures Warcraft Terror Plot | Danger Room from Wired.com

Quote:
In a presentation late last week at the Director of National Intelligence Open Source Conference in Washington, Dr. Dwight Toavs, a professor at the Pentagon-funded National Defense University, gave a bit of a primer on virtual worlds to an audience largely ignorant about what happens in these online spaces. Then he launched into a scenario, to demonstrate how a meatspace plot might be hidden by in-game chatter.

I can't believe the pentagon funded this. Hopefully the next one involves attack planning via fortune cookie messages.

Are they essentially picking this out because they can't tap into MMO communications yet? The whole thing looks retarded and sounds like bullshit. I can understand wanting to keep an eye on the technology these types of games use and what it means in relation to the law, but if this is real then it thoroughly shows that perhaps its idiocy instead of bureaucracy that has our technology laws so behind the times.

Been using this forum to relay Al-Qaeda messages for years. Why do you think my posts usually suck so bad?

Deep Packet Inspection technology already exists. It's just a discussion that it could be a possible hiding place for bad guys, and how they could learn to root them out in places like WOW or Second Life and so forth.
