If the various governments (not just the US) had one fucking iota of common-sense they'd legalise pot then tax the fuck out of it.

This.

SAFER - Marijuana is safer than alcohol. It's time we treat it that way.

Legalize it.

Tax it.

We let fucking dipshits smoke their nasty ass cigarettes, which has been scientifically shown to actually be addictive. Honestly pot isn't worse. Spend less tax payer dollars on locking up potheads and start earning tax dollars off of them instead.

First, the Supremacy clause of the Constitution.
Second, the US Supreme Court holding in Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U.S. 1 (2005).

Personally, I'd like to see tobacco outlawed and marijuana legalized, as a user of neither.

Tobacco is far more harmful to the public health and costs us all a lot more in rising healthcare costs.

Potheads just drive up the price of Cheetos.

I'm not a doctor but I think inhaling any type of smoke will drive up health care costs. At least cigarettes have a filter.

I definitely don't support pot in any way whatsoever, but I am glad the federal gov't was told to fuck off in this case. Anything that takes power away from the feds and moves it back to the states is a good thing.

I'm not an expert, but there are a lot of harmful things added to tobacco and cigarettes during the manufacturing process, that marijuana doesn't have (now who's to say that it might not get processed in a similar way if it was produced as part of a legal, large scale industry).

Things like:
-Formaldehyde
-Arsenic
-Ammonia
-DDT (presumably as a pesticide on the crop?)

Info from this page:
What's In a Cigarette, 599 Ingredients in a Cigarette

Personally, I don't think there's much benefit to legalizing either; but if you give me a choice between pot or tobacco being legal, I'll take pot every time.

I think that that is true, but pot smokers also don't smoke 2 packs of joints a day

Well, if you outlaw tobacco on the basis of public health, you should outlaw most fast food as well then. Obesity and all that jazz.

Honestly, I'd be quite happy with that; but I recognize that that level of regulation isn't something most people here are going to go along with.

I do think that we as a society need to force people to take responsibility for their own health, since the vast majority doesn't seem to be able to make healthy choices for themselves without some sort of consequences for letting themselves turn into fat, unhealthy slobs.

All that happened here was a federal district court judge denied a motion to dismiss based on the previous supreme court rulings. Given that the court hasn't changed since the last time the court decided on this issue, it's unlikely this is going anywhere. The district court may well be ordered via mandamus from the 9th circuit to dismiss the case.

Oh, I'm not naive enough to think that even if this was upheld all the way to the supreme court that it would have any real effect on getting the assholes in DC to stop butting their noses into shit that states alone should have control over. I was just noting that even though I oppose what CA is doing, I support the idea that it's their decision and not the fed's.

I'll be honest, I'm a pothead, I love me some weed! All I dare ever hope for is that marijuana eventually becomes decriminalized. I just don't want to go to prison for smoking weed, that's gay.

Warhammer is great on weed, Black orc stoned is hella fun! I'm gonna play on a rp open rvr server. Smoke some herb and ORC SMASH!

I do believe you've got it backwards.
