Am I a racist?

Suppose I owned a company and hired a new summer intern every year. My first two interns were black, and I didn't see any increase in my company's revenue while they were working. On the third year, I hired a white guy who produced a jump in my companies revenue. On the fourth year, it was another black guy who didn't do anything. You get the point.

So from then on, I would choose a non-black person even if the black person's resume looked *edit* a little */edit* better, but if the black person had a much better resume, then I'd hire him.

Does this make me racist?

Yes, of course it would.

Discrimination based on race is racism, regardless of how well or poorly founded your discrimination is.

And unless your company is like 2 people, you won't notice significant increase in company revenue based on what intern you have unless that intern does something really extraordinary. Equating company revenue with an intern's performance and using that as your primary metric is pretty foolish. (Note that I know this is hypothetical and I'm not speaking of you personally).

I wonder if there is a term for this type of racism? To me, it's just common sense.

Or is it the same type where one race shoots another for no particular reason other than race?

If a single summer intern can effect your companies revenue by a noticable amount then you have bigger issues then the interns race.

You need to look beyond the color of the skin and look at what you are missing in your interviews that allowing less qualified people to slip by. Anyone can bull shit a good resume and pull your chain in an interview, a good employer can see through the bull shit.

I've had some shitty white employees that didn't last long. After you go through a few you start to pick up on little things that help you pick winners. Color of the skin isn't one of them.

This is like... the definition of racism. Did you actually think this was some sort of close call?

not at all. during the internship i worked this summer my boss told me i was a "real treat" to work with since the intern who had been assigned to him last summer was a "real nigger" and didn't get shit done at all. there is plenty of truth in stereotypes, whether we like it or not.

of course there is a truth to stereotypes... sterotyping is natural.

Studies show that 85% of problems in the work place are due to the companys structure (which is decided by management), while 15% are actually due to employees.

This should indicate that statistically.. your structure is failing. You haven't had enough interns to even think about race.

And were assuming all these people are educated the same.

I worked as an intern this last fall/spring at an investment firm. They did a very poor job with interns. Their communication and goal orientation skills were horrible. I could tell they blamed me for a lot of things that they failed to teach me.

sounds like you got one intern that did a good job, and three that did not so good jobs by comparison. I doubt race alone made them good interns or bad interns.

Unless your clientele is all rednecks. Do you make a lot of sales to the Klan?

Your hypothetical is too retarded. What was the real story?

There is NO biological link between intelligence, attitude, capability and geographic heritage (some call it "race").

Culturally, sure, there are fewer blacks that are going to college than whites, but that is changing fast. But unless your give us some more data, really you just sound more like a "fair weather friend" than a full blow racist.

To me, people fall into different places

Color Blind (rare),

Fair weather friend (nice to face, doesn't discriminate necessarily, but still sees the races as separate and unequal).

Bigot (typically nice/cordial to face, but prejudiced and disrespectful behind back. Assumes there are some good colored people out there.)

Prejudiced (neutral/mean to face, and fairly intolerant both to face and behind back. Dislikes, but doesn't have a seething hatred)

Racist (mean to face, intolerant, and has a irrational dislike and hate for an entire race, regardless of exceptions or averages or individuals who prove them otherwise).

Anyways, I'd say it's safe to say your a Bigot.
